I went on the Independence Mall tour with Joseph Spurlock. He was very witty and informative and gave a great overview of the revolution, including the role of slavery and slave owners that may be glossed over in other tours. I’d really recommend.

We had a great time with Toni on the Italian Market tour. She has a wealth of information to share and takes you on a delightful introduction to the area. Bring a carry bag for all your purchases and don't count any meal points.

I agree that small kids will be bored. As far as the distance and the speed, children should not have a problem keeping up.

As others stated, it's free, with the option to tip. Unless you hated it and quit before the end, you should tip the guide. My suggestion would be at least $10/person, up to $40 or so.
