A cool place

We walked around and looked at beautifully designed walls. We didn't go inside but outside gave us a good glance. My 3yr old enjoyed it as well.

There's timed entry so be ready to purchase tix then return later to your the "garden ". We grabbed BBQ lunch with the coupon the garden gives out with your tix. It's an interesting spot; a shotgun-artist -installation-becomes-neighborhood-fixture history. Story of a time when US cities were run down and abandoned (see late 80s-early 90s) before we "recolonized" these areas... More

Isaiah Zager has spent the past 35 years covering over 20 blocks of walls, inside and out, with mosaic murals in the south end of Philadelphia. The museum is a mind-bending wonder, well-worth a detour to get there. There is also a small gift shop to explore. If you are interested in this art form you could also take a... More

An amazing exhibit of recycling art. This place is unique and a must see. It has stairs and narrow corridors but is an amazing experience.

Magic Gardens is truly a magic place if you are interested in mosaics, tiles, and creative arts in general. Indoor galleries and an outdoor maze on multiple levels where every surface is covered by mosaics made by Isaiah Zagar. It reminded me of Gaudi's work in Barcelona.

If you are cruising South Street, you need to stop in this peculiar museum. Everywhere you look (walls, floor, steps) is tiled with weird things. If you want to save the admission price, just look around from the street. It really is all the same, plus the artist, Isaiah Zagar has decorated a few other nearby buildings.

If you have time to visit the Magic Gardens you should go. It’s the crazy, rambling creation of mosaic mural artist, Isaiah Zagar. He started this by “working” on a vacant lot in the early 1990s, with permission from the absentee landlord. The story goes that by the time the landlord wanted to sell the lot, it was too late!... Eh. That's how I felt about it. Maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea. It was weird and quirky but got old, fast. Not worth the price IMO.

This gem was such a surprise. The mosaic work surrounds you. Upstairs, downstairs, wall and floors. You are enveloped by this artists' work. Wonderful
