Anything and everything you want to know about this area is available from the National Park Service at this location. All maps and walking tours are free. There are many special activities for children including a Junior Park Ranger badge/certificate. Most importantly, there are large clean bathrooms! A cafeteria offers modestly priced food items. This is a must stop before you tour the historical district. The service team is great and will help you plan your time in the district. We had no idea what we wanted to see, but left with a plan and when/where to get tickets, as well as some discounts.

The visitor center is a great place to begin your visit of historic Philadelphia. Two short films give a basic introduction to the revolutionary period, but if you children (or even if you don't), I would recommend renting the musical 1776 before coming, to really get grounded in the story of the continental congress in an entertaining way. Be sure... More

The two-day Philadelphia Pass can be purchased here, we found it was affordable with what we planned on visiting, but do the math. Clean rest rooms, a/c for cooling off, good place to pop in and regroup.

This is where we got our tickets (no charge!) to tour Independence Hall. Great place to take a break, get something to eat/drink, and then hit the large gift shop. Good exhibits as well.

This should be your first stop in Philadelphia. The park rangers are full of information about the area and history. Plus, this is where you will pick up your timed tickets to visit Independence Hall.

A great first stop with a plethora of information and helpful park rangers, restrooms, a gift shop, costumed character interactive fun, tour desks, brochures, and of course tickets for Independence Hall.

This is very clean and a good place to wait for the tours. This is where you pick up tickets to see Independence Hall. Although they provide some good background on sites and the revolution, I don't really recommend seeing the movies inside. Instead see the Franklin Print shop if you're waiting for a tour.

We enjoyed the clean bathroom, the people in costumes of the day giving art and music lessons. There is shopping inside. there is food inside. This is where you get your tickets for independence building across the street pass the liberty bell.
