Some of nature's beauty at its best. Some hiking involved, but not hard. When in the area, don't pass it up.

Lovely hike up a moderate incline to the most amazing spectacular of the Devil's Postpile. Created when molten lava cooled the hexagonal shapes built like a honeycomb structure are a triumph of nature. Lovely angles from the base but walk to the top and you really get to see how the formation was made not to mention the beautiful views.... More

Devils Postpile is definitely worth the stop. The hike is maybe a half a mile long with some moderate hills but it's doable if you are of average health. Trail is well marked and well maintained. The post file itself is remarkable although not as far as I had imagined.

It is about a 1/4 mile walk to the post pile from the parking lot. Not difficult at all and very worth seeing. Beautiful scenery, although the moqsuitos are bothersome at certain times of the year.

Pleasant walk. Slightly put off by notices advising presence of Bubonic Plaque and West Nile Fever but probably just being over cautious. Used plenty of insect repellent. Payment required on entry.

Its a pretty easy hike(benches along the path for folks needing a break) lots of information signage along the way. Great info by the rangers. The post pile wasn't as large or dramatic as I though it would be, but worth seeing just the same.

The drive to the park is exciting....lots of twists and turns. There's a short non strenuous walk to the post pile and a little fewer on the trail to the water fall. Do the hike up the path to see the top of the rock formation...great outing

Devils' Postpile is a "must see" when in the Mammoth Lakes area. The entire area is so beautiful. It helped to have a sunny morning with perfect temperatures. When you see the basalt columns in such different formations, keeping in mind that what you see was built around a lava lake, created millions of years ago during a volcanic period,... More

Devi's Postpile is a must see attraction in Mammoth. It's a bit tough to get to but well worth it. I have been there a few times in the past 10 years and I'm still in awe when I go.

It's best to go to this if you are not 100 pounds overweight and in your 60s, as we are. You'll feel like you're 80 and weigh 400 pounds since the elevation is about 9,000 feet. The trail to the monument would seem short and with hardly any incline at all at a lower altitude, so go for it. We... More
