Cannot stress this enough: To hike the loop, take a lot more water than you think you will need. 4 quarts per adult for summer. Wear good sturdy shoes. If there is rain coming over, stay out of the gulch which is a wide arroyo...More

We stopped here in the afternoon in mid-September, after driving through Artist’s Palette. We only walked a short distance to the entrance to the canyon since it was pretty hot by that time of day. You can see the start of the golden colors right...More

The entire path is very long and there are no payoffs at the end. There are a number of steep narrow climbs about 15 minutes into the hike which offer great views of the canyon. They are relatively tough and not for children beneath teen...More

We went here when we had a record high of 53°C which probably is not the best... you have to walk this and it really is extremely hot, no shade etc. For that we felt there are other places that are worth seeing more (mosaic...More

The walk is about 1 1/2 miles from the Parking Lot. One can just do part of it I liked the very nice golden and other colors. Thus its name. In the summer, best to do early in the day.

Go early to avoid the heat and the crowds! The colours of the rocks in the canyon are fascinating and provide a dramatic illustration of sedimentary rock formation. The walk around the canyon is short so does not take too long but does get hot.

We started this hike around 8am and it was still almost 100 degrees (beginning of June). This is a short hike, but can be lengthened to Zabriskie Point if you choose to go further. The landscape here is diverse and beautiful to look at, but...More

Ensure you hike early or late. Interesting landscape with easier walking than Mosaic canyon. It can be combined with other trails to make a longer hike. The end of the hike up to the Cathedral pipes is a little more difficult but not hard, just...More
