Ensure you hike early or late. Interesting landscape with easier walking than Mosaic canyon. It can be combined with other trails to make a longer hike. The end of the hike up to the Cathedral pipes is a little more difficult but not hard, just be careful with the slope.

We did the whole long loop hike through Golden Canyon which included Gower Gulch Loop via Zabriskie Point as the starting point. We started just after sunrise and when we were on the way back it was certainly hot in the canyon. We did include the spur off to Red Cathedral as well. The views along the entire trail were... My wife and I enjoyed the walk in Golden Valley. Not unbelievable, but very pleasant. It did not seem as popular as other walks, but we enjoyed it more; even more so because we had it almost to ourselves.

We hiked in Golden Canyon, and connected with Gower Gulch to make the loop rather than doing an out-and-back. This adds an extra mile or so, and some elevation, but the views along Gower Gulch are wonderful. We spent about 2.5 hours on the trail, with many stops for pictures. Start early in the morning for the best conditions and... More

We hiked down from Zabriski Point. I highly recommend hiking down vs. going up unless you are an avid hiker. It is not an easy hike. Also, if you've got kids with you, know that there are some pretty scary points where the trail is very thin and you are literally inches from falling hundreds of feet, with a single... More

Set of from Backwater Road parking 1 mile from Furnace Creek Inn. Easy start and good for kids. Left fork after 1 mile takes you to summit of Red Cathedral steep scree towards top is unsuitable for youngsters as the return is difficult and natrow with big drops to side. Views from the top of the whole of Death Valley... More

You better betchya . . There is a reason this is one of the most crowded trails in Death Valley . . It's because it's one of the best . . Do the full loop to "z point" . .get here 1/2 hour before sunrise. Yes it's in a canyon . .but the early morning light-once you get up a... More

Get out of your vehicle and hike up the canyon a ways. It's not too strenuous. But pay attention to the warnings about the heat. Go early or late when you can walk in the shadows. It's noticeably hotter in the canyon if you are walking in the sun and even on a reasonable day in late March, we felt... More
