Great Park

This park is a hidden gem in West Bradenton. It's not that large but it has some nice walking trails and informational tours.

We always try to stop at NPS sites when traveling... This spot was small but very nice... Learned a lot from the video... The volunteer staff helped us greatly... Worth a stop.

We sailed south for the weekend and tried to get onto Egmont Key, but the water was too rough and shallow. We found a calm anchorage just offshore of De Soto National Memorial and spent a few hours exploring. It was a nice little fine. Great for just a few hours - nice walk around the nature trail which is... More

This is a beautiful piece of land that juts out into the Manatee River near the convergence of Tampa Bay & the Gulf of Mexico. The views are certainly enjoyable. However, the lack of trail maintenance means you'll be fighting slippery boardwalks, muddy trails, and low hanging branches across the whole trail system. The dated (hokey, cheesy, cheap, and mostly... More

Beautifully kept and well managed area with historical significance. Lovely walks through diverse plants, trees and mangrove swamps; fabulous views of the river (dolphin spotting adds to the experience). Perfect for all ages.

South of Tampa/St. Petersburg on the bay is the spot where Hernando DeSoto waded ashore to begin his quest for gold and glory. He left a party here to guard their supply cache. Today the site is home to a recreation of the camp DeSoto's men built. During the summer park rangers give demonstrations of what life in a remote... More

Wonderful national memorial that can be completed in less than an hour right where DeSoto landed! You have realistic views of what the original landing would have encountered.

Another one of those hidden gems! It's so worth a visit and a wonderful place for a relaxing stroll. There is a short walk or a longer walk. It's very interesting and historical as well. You get many viewpoints along the way of Manatee River and Tampa Bay, as well as a nice walk through different types of mangroves. Look... More

We visited here on a day that began cloudy, weather was iffy, so we decided to forego the beach and look around town. Staff is knowledgeable, the property is gorgeous, views are lovely, and it's not too big or overwhelming.
