As the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast, the South Florida Museum offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs that interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world and our universe. In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions -- offering something new to discover with each visit. The Museum includes the all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater and the Parker Manatee Aquarium. Celebrating its 50th anniversary year, the Bishop Planetarium is the Gulf Coast's premier astronomy education facility, outfitted with a state-of-the-art Planetarium and projection system with stunning multimedia capabilities. The Parker Manatee Aquarium is home to Snooty™, Manatee County's official mascot and the oldest known manatee in the world, as certified by Guinness World Records. Snooty shares his Aquarium pool with other manatees that have been injured or orphaned and are being rehabilitated for return to the wild as part of the Manatee Rehabilitation and Release Partnership.

This is a great place for people of all ages to explore. I have been several of times and always learn something new each time. They have an amazing rock n roll hall of fame laser light show certain times of the month. They also have star shows & star talks at the planetarium. You can't leave without visiting snooty... More

Not big on museums but it was pretty nice. Kind of expensive. Went to the Planatarium for a show but it went way past my thinking. I felt like I was sitting through a college class. Home of Snooty.

The museum is beautiful with many different exhibits. It also houses the book of world record's oldest living captive manatee, Snooty. The planetarium was very nice as well. This is easily and entire day attraction!

I've been to this museum at least 3 times with my kids. First two times were exciting but the third time, it had lost its attraction for my kids. Museum is packed full of Florida history and the guides are great. The planetarium is also an excellent attraction. I found it quite interesting and the admission was very reasonable.

Good planetarium with knowledgeable commentary on the show. They do some nice wine and snacks for adult activities at night. They also have family movies some weekend nights.

This is probably the most disappointed I have been in a museum. The biggest problem is the price, at $19 you can go to Lowry Zoo, Tampa Aquarium, Clearwater aquarium or a hundred museums. Seeing Snooty getting fed is nice and there were two other manatees at the time but the rest of the aquarium is terrible. Small tanks of... More

Great place to spend a couple of hours. The manatee talk and planetarium were very good. The rest of the museum was a bit tired but still kept the kids attention.

For several years, while vacationing in Sarasota, my wife and I have been encouraged to visit the South Florida Museum and Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton. Until recently, we didn't feel the urge. But when visiting the Ellenton Premium Outlets shopping mall, we decided to make time for a trip to the South Florida Museum at 201 10th Street West in... More
