I just used the campground as a highway stop over during Covid. The information that is not online - 1. They lock the gate 10pm so dont book for late arrival unless they provide access code (and the gate is over a mile from campground). Bathrooms are private personal rooms with toilet sink and shower felt very Covid safe. Lots of staff (3 sets of management) so lots of rules but felt very safe and watched over. $5 parking pass they ask you to pay for after you book online (for which they lose 1 star). I wouldnt mind really but it should be charged up front. Pay laundry in bath house. Very clean.

While visiting St. Mary's we decided to drive through this area to see what it was all about. First off, this is one of the most cleanest parks I have ever seen. From the person at the front desk giving you all the information and maps needed to either drive or hike this place, and the RV and camping area which was spotless and super quiet. The hiking trails were also well marked. The restrooms were the cleanest restrooms in any state park I have ever seen. This was possible due to the volunteers that keep this park looking spotless. They also had a boat ramp area to launch your boats or kayaks. The admission to this park was $5 and well worth every cent. They also rent cabins which were beautiful if you're not into RVing or tent camping. Keep in mind they book out about 6 months in advance. There are also two sections of cabins. The older and newer ones. I went into both. Both were beautiful. The newer ones overlooked a field that had a gazebo and a playground for kids and the older ones had a Riverview. This is a definite must if you're interstate parks.

As clean as I ever remember the cabins but! they are missing a lot of kitchen utensils. Finally real soap for the baths and I appreciate the mini shampoos but think a state park should be more conservation conscious than to add more plastics to our landfills (& did not see anywhere to recycle on this trip). Towels are the 100% cotton (the same brand and type as at the $200+ hotel I stayed in the previous week) but sheets need replacing as they are just short of threadbare. Furniture has been refurbished or replaced so is in much better shape and lots of repairs have been made to make the place much nicer than on our previous stay a year ago.
We still enjoy long walks along the paths and "communing" w/ nature (were greeted by a baby armadillo, several hermit crabs, squirrels, gopher tortoises, and countless birds amongst others). The folks are as friendly as can be and helpful as possible.
And, once again, are looking to return next year.

I stayed for two nights at the Cooked River State Park in St. Mary’s Ga. The atmosphere of the park itself it’s nice and clean. I stayed in cottage #6.The cottage is very dated and looks clean but on the first night I started seeing roaches. Roaches on the walls, roaches on the kitchen countertops, and roaches running across the stove. Apparently it’s been ongoing because there was a can of bug spray underneath the sink in the kitchen. For $160 a night I expect at least big bug free when I stay anywhere. I may go back in the camping area with my RV but never again will I rent a cottage.

Park is beautiful, everyone so helpful and friendly. Don't miss the Nature Center, small but a lady volunteer was so informative and knowledgeable about the animals in the area. Lots of places to roam around. Very clean and had nice putt putt and playgrounds. Went there to fish but unfortunately only 2 places we could find (far scary trail to rocky beach, or the Pier/Boat Ramp) both were crowded and nothing was biting for anyone. Get there early to fish! Very nice man at Bait Shop which has a small selection but pricey, hit Walmart first! Onto the Cottage we rented. Left a lot to be desired as it was dirty (took down 3 large cobwebs, more bugs in kitchen light than outdoor light, ripped sofa, dusty, needs paint and a lot of ceiling work), I was awoken at 5:30am to a RAT parade going through the wall a foot from my head and through the bathroom walls!! Needless to say we left at 8:00am and received a full refund. Vacation ruined! Obscene they are charging $175 a night for dilapidated cabins. Should be $60 a night. Stay at a Hotel and go here for the day or camp. Never again for us!

This review is for the Crooked River State Park campground. Nice clean campground. Clean bathhouse and toilets. Large pull-through camping spot #39 on river. The pull through lots are $6/night more than back-in lots but much bigger with more privacy between lots. Go for the pull thru spots if you can. Spent 3 nights, touring Jekyll Island and St Simons, along with
St. Marys. Fort Frederica National Monument on St. Simons Island was interesting and worth a visit. Tried to go to Cumberland Island but US Park Service will not allow dogs on the Ferry although dogs are allowed on Cumberland Island.

I love nature, and this is a great park. There are cabins, RV sites, and primitive camping. There is a nice boat ramp with a bait shop on site for you to access the Crooked River. I spent 2 hours here on my way to a conference. I walked about 4 miles of trails. I saw lots of beautiful birds, a raccoon, an alligator, two snakes (both nonvenomous), a variety of lizards, and squirrels. I did not see any fox squirrels or gopher tortoises, though I did see many of the tortoise burrows.

This campground is so beautiful with sites that are deep and very wide. One of the hosts Mary found out we were headed to Cumberland island for the day and offered to walk our dog for us.
It is very clean and well kept.
We had to leave very suddenly due to a health issue of a relative back home. They refunded our money without being asked to do so. A very kind thing to do.

This review is for CRSP Cottage 10, a 2 bedroom, 4 bed, 1 bath, pet friendly house down a quiet road within the park. The park staff at the gift shop were very kind and engaged. They collected our balance and $50.00 pet fee there. Not all cottages are pet friendly. Cottage 10 is…so plan ahead! Despite that, there was 0 smell when we entered the cottage. It was very clean! Exceptional view of Crooked River! Our family of four loved s’mores under the stars and twisted coastal trees. There is a jumbo picnic table and fire pit. Carrying meals out was no issue and so much less exhausting than cooking on the Coleman stove and dealing with gear and tents. That’s also a fun experience, but coming back to AC and a private bathroom after a full day of hiking Cumberland Island is worth the nightly price tag. One day it poured. We comfortably watched the storm from the cozy screened-in porch. The kitchen is well stocked, minus a cutting board. No biggie. Made do. I always travel with a reliable and sharpened kitchen knife, kitchen scissors, and my trusty cast iron pan. But I was surprised to find supplies at the cottage like paper towels, toilet paper, and dish washer pods. The beds are comfortable and the linens and towels are clean and plentiful. It was a great experience and we would love to return.

Watching the sun 🌞 come up and go down from screened in porch with friends. Crooked river just behind cabins. Spanish moss draping large live oaks. Walking the many woodland trails and seeing wildlife.

Someone mentioned a 3 hour boat tour with the park rangers but I can't find it anywhere online. Does anyone have info on that ?
Written 13 March 2020
It could be you're talkin about the boat tour over to Cumberland Island. You can call the Rangers and it give you information on it but daily there is a boat that goes over there for extra hours and then you come back on the same boat later on in the day

We are coming down on the 31st. of Oct. and was wondering about the bugs and how bad are they?
Written 21 October 2019
We were there in the beginning of October and only had an issue with the sand gnats. Bug spray is a must regardless of the time of year though; always spray your feet! Don't let this deter from the wonderful place though - take bug spray and cortisone for itching and you will be fine.
