We had some extra time on our drive from Tucson to Albuquerque & saw that The Nature Conservancy's Muleshoe Ranch was rated highly for birding. So from Pomerene we drove 40+ miles on dirt roads (Cascabel Rd, 3-Links Rd, Muleshoe Ranch Rd) through the 3-Links cattle ranch, and past a solar and wind farm to the Muleshoe Ranch. There are two... We are glad you enjoyed the trails and the wildlife. In the Day Use Parking lot there is a Nature Conservancy/Muleshoe Ranch kiosk with information, trail maps and instructions how to access the trails. This lot is located south of the main gate. I believe you may have parked at the BLM Kiosk (north of the main gate) that leads... More

Spent a week at the ranch several years ago and had a great time hiking the many trails. The cabin was wonderful and there were numerous hummingbirds around the cabins. It is 30 miles from the nearest town so be sure to bring in the necessary supplies that you will need. The road to the ranch is dirt so it... More

We stayed 3 days and had a great time. The birding was excellent and there were very nice trails, all on the Nature Conservatory property. The staff was both friendly and informative about the area and its history. I'll be back.

For day visitors not staying in the casitas, this is a great place to bird or hike. My suggestion would be to come early in the day and hike up Jackson Cabin road to Bass Canyon. If you'd like a shorter, easier trail, look for the markers to the Nature Trail.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Chulo Casita - the smallest and least expensive - perfect for the 2 of us. Hiked the Nature Trail several times at different times of the day and the Bass Canyon Trail. Muleshoe is truly a special place - beautiful surroundings, lots of birds (and snakes). As others have said, bring everything... More

This desert hideaway offers several miles of trails, an unusual hot tub, and good birding. The casitas are comfortable and well maintained.

We love this place. We've stayed there a few times & I can't wait to go back. Bring all your supplies with you. Stock up in Wilcox on anything you might need because it's a long drive out on the gravel road. We really enjoyed the trails and our unique casita (small house). The birding is fabulous.

We have been backpacking in the Galiuro Wilderness around Redfield Canyon many times but this was the first time we've been to Muleshoe Ranch, aka Hooker Hotsprings. The place is incredible and the birding and wildlife are fantastic. My wife, daughter and I stayed in the stone cabin for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was well... More

We (two long-time men friends) spent a week here and loved it. We werre the only guests and saw no one else on the trails we took -- just a few hunting camps on the primitive road leading to the more remote areas. Don't expect luxury or any entertainment other than what you provide by enjoying the natural areas. We... More
