For a local, small town type of museum, this is a lovely building and grounds and does a wonderful job of the exhibits it gets. It would be nice to get some of the more famous items that its northern neighbor in Santa Barbara gets,...More

This was our first time visiting a museum where close to 50% of the exhibits were outside due to the Californian weather. We found that it covered the local history and had some modern images on display also.

We visited the newly reopened museum today. Parts of the museum are very appealing; the rock wall in front, the mosaics and murals, the wonderful art collection. There is an educational area for children. In a separate room there is the display of historical figures;...More

or grand children. Enclosed, so it's safe from the street. Areas just for the children. It's not so big that you feel overwhelmed. Good exhibits and the docents are very knowledgeable.

My last visit was as a volunteer for World Ocean Day. This museum is in a convenient location (on Main Street across from Mission San Buenaventura). And afterward, you can walk to the beach (4 blocks away).

The historical displays helped answer questions regarding the native populations & the early community. A room featuring a local artist was...More

Very small museum across from the Mission. Stopped in on our way to the mission and it was worth the time. Really liked the George Stuart doll collection about the diamond necklace.

This is a very small museum, with only a few rooms of displays. But what they do is very well done. I enjoyed the musical instruments exhibit as well as the historical figures gallery. Admission is very reasonable, especially if you ask for the AAA...More
