This is a mission built in 1683 by the Tiguan tribe. It is a nice church dedicated to Saint Anthony. It was part of the Franciscan missions in the northern part of Mexico. Although it is smaller than the ones in San Antonio, it is also worth the visit.

My wife and I stayed overnight in El Paso on our way back home from AZ. We decided to add more culture to our trip and stop by the Culture center for the Tigua tribe of the Pueblo Indians. Im glad we did. We were the only ones in the center, so we got a personal guided tour. Also got a lot of insider info and opinions of the tribe. Wonderful stop! We will be stopping there next time through so that we can see some of the other stuff like the traditional dancing and the video they play there. Thank you Ysleta tribe for such an added bonus to our trip.

This museum is not housed in the Alderette-Candelaria House. It is currently part of a community center in the middle of the reservation. If you're coming to this area just for the museum don't bother. However, if you are coming for all the other attractions in the area you can actually make a good half day excursion and not be unsatisfied. I would give the museum by itself below average, but its location in the community center helps make up for the little you gain from an excursion to the museum.
The museum alone is really tiny. It is only two rooms. I estimate that it is only about 800 square feet or less of floor space in it. The exhibits weren't bad, but they seemed to focus more on the art and artisan skills of the Tigua Indians than the history itself (many exhibits of pottery) . The little history covered in the museum is entirely covering the history of the tribe since the arrival of the Spanish. Overall, I left with little new knowledge about their culture which I was hoping to get from the excursion.

The Ysleta Mission is preserved and maintained in excellent condition. It is interesting to visit the church and compound to gain some small insight into the past of El Paso. The staff is welcoming.

My husband and I went to see the Ysleta Mission because it is recognized as the oldest continuously operated parish in the State of Texas. It is one of three historical missions on the mission trail in El Paso. The exterior of the mission is gorgeous and the grounds are pretty as well. We did not get to see the inside because there was no parking near the mission. A large event was happening next door and all of the parking lots were full on the Saturday afternoon I was there.

The Mission Trail in El Paso is also known as Socorro Road, and has access to three active missions as well as the Tigua Indian Cultural Center, located at the junction of Yaya, Carl Lngemare, and Socorro Road. You absolutely cannot miss this center because the parking area has a huge statue of an Aboriginal American in ceremonial dance. This reservation has been in existence since the Pope Revolt of 1680, and the history is well documented within the museum as well as live performances on on Sundays AND traditional oven bread cooking! I've pedaled by here several times, and was finally able to stop--open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm. Ample parking is available if arriving by motor car, and super clean bathrooms are easily accessible. This is another aspect of the El Paso-Cd. Juarez region that is so informative and enriching. I strongly encourage everyone to visit here!

Super old church - with a casino and a VFW place right next door. good drinks, not too expensive, nice people, good concerts for free when they have them.

Ysleta Mission is right in the Pueblo of Ysleta del Sur, and I was surprised that a casino is right next door. In fact, looking for a place to park, I parked in the casino parking lot and walked around to visit to the mission.
In any case, the mission is beautiful, the grounds are clean and well maintained. On the day I visited, it appeared that the saint figures were covered up, but I could still go inside the mission to pray.
This mission is part of the Mission Trail in El Paso, but I did not visit the rest of the trail.

Nice little mission. We had seen bigger ones near San Antonio so were a little disappointed. The statues were covered with cloth – I guess because of the dust storms. it is free.
