The tunnel is much shorter than I expected. We were on a bus, so I didn't have to worry about the crazy drivers. I will be returning to New Jersey the same way so that will determine if there is anything else to write about.

We got lucky on a Friday at 1:30pm with only a slight delay at the entrance driving thru to mid-town NYC. The Lincoln Tunnel was proposed as early as 1923, but was built in 3 stages with the 1st tube taking 4 years to complete opening in 1937. The 2nd/North tube opened in 1945 and the 3rd/South tube opened in 1957. Currently $17 with reduced EZ pass rates. Actually, a fun ride thru this old tunnel.

The tunnel costs $16 one time from NJ to NY. No cash- picture taken and bill mailed. Don’t have to pay from NY to NJ.
We went in at 8pm on Monday. It took us an hour.
Hard to navigate at busy times. Have to merge your way from 4 lanes into 2 with a lot of other vehicles.
NY to NJ much easier. We left at 9am on Friday before New Year’s.
Use panynj.gov to find tunnel times and speed. - very helpful!

Always an experience and sometimes the best choice to transit into NewYork City. Be aware of the toll charge if you don't have the ez card.

It's the way to Jersey, or from Jersey. I was fascinated by the lines of traffic and how they chose with street to use for access. Terrible at rush hour.

You have to be at the tunnel at the right time as there tend to be traffic jams here...i Crossed the tunnel twice while going to Atlantic city and Niagara falls...fortunately both the times there was minimal traffic...This is around 2.5 km long under the Hudson river..

Remember to remove your sunglasses BEFORE you enter the Lincoln Tunnel. The surrounding landscape near the Lincoln Tunnel is anything but static. At present, there are condominiums being built that are blocking the view of NYC’s iconic skyline. You are only able to catch glimpses of Manhattan in-between these high-rise condos. Additionally, look to see how the skyline of HudsonYards is changing. The area is being gentrified, therefore, bringing in a mix of heights and styles of buildings. The interior of the Lincoln Tunnel is tight. You may not have a cellular signal. As you’ll be sharing the space with many huge vehicles like busses and trucks, be prepared for other vehicles to come within inches of you. If you are claustrophobic or have anxiety, let someone else take charge of the driving. If traffic is moving, you won’t be in there for very long. If, however, there is a traffic snag, be prepared to sit there.

Good way to enter into NYC. Can be backed up at times depending on whether the tunnels are open into or out of the city but once in the tunnel the traffic goes smoothly. Great to see the middle with the line of each state.

I always hope that the Lincoln Tunnel will not be backed up, though often it is. It is important and magnificent in its connection of New Jersey to New York and I am happy to have experienced it many times.

One of the main connections between New York and New Jersey this long tunnel is a masterpiece of engineering of its time. Often horribly congested but an interesting experience to travel beneath the water of the Hudson River.

Hey,
I'm travelling from either Union City or Weehawken into NYC. I'm new to the area and want to know if this is a reliable option to get to NYC for work 5 days a week. How much delay does the traffic usually cause?

We are traveling to NY from Indiana in a group of about 10 motorcycles in July. Is this the best way to get to NY? We are staying in Mid-town

If you’re in Midtown then yes, it’s the most convenient. Highly recommend traveling through after morning or evening rush hour traffic.
