The worst thing I've ever seen, don't waste your time/money! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over the age of 6.

Do something clever, not just amateurish slapstick . I saw Blue Man in Chicago and it was way way better. This was just silly and unimaginative.

Very funny and totally brilliant.
Don’t listen to the complaints about seating. I’m 6ft and it was fine.
We laughed a lot.

The show was such a disappointment. Limited music, bland entertainment. My husband and I left early. Don’t waste your money.

I feel that I need to do the world a favor and tell you how awful this show was. I do not understand, for the life of me, how this show could have possibly gotten any great reviews at all, especially since it is clear from what I have read that I saw the exact same show that others saw before me. There is an infinite number of more entertaining, worthwhile things that one can do in NYC, and I guarantee you that sitting in a donut shop is infinitely more fun than watching this atrocity of a show.
A friend and I decided to watch it and had an an attitude of genuine interest and open-mindedness at the beginning. We did not sit there wanting to hate the show - we spent good money on it and wanted to have a fun time. We are not highbrow types, snobs nor people who want to bring down a business. However, I feel compelled to write this review because I cannot abide by the dumbification of entertainment, or the idea of food wastage as entertainment, and want to do even one of you strangers out there a favor and save you some time and money. Plus, as a New Yorker it embarrasses me that this is presented as one of the best things to watch in the city, when it is absolutely the worst possible use of your free time.
Here are some of the many, many reasons this was a horrible show:
1. It was not funny at all. I don't mind slapstick humor, but this was not even slapstick. It was just lame. If you find it funny to watch men spit gumballs, regurgitate cereal, and waste food onstage, maybe this is for you.
2. There was an entire section that involved audience participation, and it was overly long, lame, boring. One act involved getting a random lady to go onstage to eat a snack with the performers, and there was absolutely nothing funny about that.
Another act involved getting a boy to go upside down and have him position himself against a large canvas backstage, while the performers spray painted paint around him. There was a camera that followed him backstage to show us the action that was happening there, as they could not perform the act onstage. In the end they came back out with a large canvas with a silhouette of the said boy. That was supposed to be art? I do not understand what was entertaining about watching that process.
3. Long parts of the show basically involved just showing an amateurish video with an exaggerated voice-over of how plumbing works. I do not understand what was funny or interesting about this, and mind you, I do not mind toilet humor.
4. Before the show started, there was an electronic ticker tape blasting out a bunch of birthday announcements to random audience members, and instructing the audience to applaud and shout and scream.
5. There was an extended bit that involved throwing long strips of toilet paper at the audience while flashing strobe lights. What was fun about that? It went on too long and unless you've never been on a dance floor and seen a strobe light before, there was absolutely nothing interesting about it.
6. The drum sequences were dull, uninteresting and just plain boring. There was no talent being showcased whatsoever.
7. There's a lot of mention about this being an art performance - if your idea of art is watching a man throw up a giant wad of oddly shaped gum, then so be it.
Lastly, the staff at Blue Man Group were terribly rude to my friend and me. We tried to get tickets at the box office, and were told that if we wanted to use a Black Friday promo code that they had advertised online, then we should buy the tickets online. So we tried to do this on our phones while sitting on a bench in the lobby, as it was raining outside and we wanted to make sure that we were getting the right seats. The staff kept telling us to leave immediately, treating us like we were loiterers or even criminals. We just asked for a few minutes to sit there while we completed the transaction, yet they kept telling us to leave. Finally we left and just stood by the doorway where there was an awning to protect us from the rain, but they would not let us stand there either - and again told us to leave. It was unbelievable. In retrospect, we should have never even bought the tickets at all. Please all do yourselves a favor - sit in a cafe and talk to each other, or even just walk around the city and enjoy its splendor. Save your money, or spend it elsewhere. This show is not art, it is not entertainment, it is not fun, it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

The blue man group is … uh… umm.. a performance. There’s no other way to describe it. You’ll just have to see it yourself to see what I mean. That said, these actors have to be pretty darn talented to do what they do. This show’s got humor, this show’s got music, this show even has a fair bit of audience participation (very fun, especially in a cozy little theatre like this one). It’s artsy, it’s funny, it’s crazy, and you’ll have a blast. No one I ever spoke to left this show disappointed.

First saw the Blue Man Group in Boston a few years back so when we brought the family to New York it was a 'must see' on our itinerary. Very entertaining and a great show for all the family.

I have been dreaming of seeing The Blue Man Group perform since I was in elementary school. I was obsessed with becoming a drummer when I was little, and I used to see all the advertisements on busses, trains, and billboards when my mom took me into Boston. I was in NYC celebrating my 30th birthday and we found out Blue Man Group was performing while we were visiting. Attending this show was literally me living a childhood dream. I was beyond impressed and I would LOVE to be able to attend another show.

HI, Can you tell me if the show is different from the one in Orlando, I saw them in Chicago about 6 years ago and then in Orlando about 4 years ago and it was the same show. We just purchased tickets to the one in NYC for June and I was wondering if the show has been changed up at all.

I can book tickets in middle of Orchestra or 2nd row Mezzanine. Have 3 kids with us 9-12yo - is one better than other?

I sat in the orchestra but it's a small intimate theater. All seats are good and the performers interacted with the entire audience. You can't go wrong either way.

Can I bring a camera to the show

The blue man group prohibits photographs during the show but Because the Astor Place is such a historic theater the permit photos before and after the show.

It doesn't really matter. It's a small theater.

I just booked front row seats before I knew that these were seats that would be vomited on. Is there a way to change my seats now that I already have them booked.

I would assume you could change your seats by contacting the venue, if not i am sure there would be many people willing to trade with you at the event.

How long is the show?
Fabio M

Hi there! Our runs 1 hour and 40 minutes, with no intermission. Please also note that the Blue Men will be in the lobby after the show and are available for photos and meet & greets. If you take part in that, it usually adds a bit of time to your departure time, so I would prepare for a total of 2 hours in and out the door. Enjoy the show!
