I'm a jazz fan and I search for something really unique to check out in NY, I search for a small, quiet & laid back bar who have live shows. It's was exactly what I have been searching for, I returns the next day. It's a great place for a couple to enjoy drinks & good music. Go to the... More

We hit the 11:30 PM show with a $10 cover per person (waited in a line outside for about 20 so get there early for best seats). The doorman/bouncer was informative, friendly, and well-organized. Based on your party's size you are assigned your seat. We got a nice two top along the wall. The place has a small dive bar... More

After a couple of drinks I asked the barman for some of the snacks we had a few nights previously. He told me to go and buy my own down the road. I reminded him that there was some in the packet at the end of the bar and we were served them before. He told me no, it was... More

This spot seems to be good but the bartenders service was horrible. Although you pay them generously they are rude and condescending in their way of speaking to people. I've now experience this twice and will not be waiting my money here any longer.

The 55 Bar is as laid back and informal as you can imagine. Just drop in, find a seat, buy a drink and listen to some great music. I was lucky enough to be in NYC on a Mike Stern night, and had the chance to chat with him after the gig; definitely the high point of my trip.

This is a very small bar, maybe 50 or so seats at tables and at the bar, so you'll not be far from the act. We were surprised to be told that no standing was allowed at the bar, so I had to wait for one of the band to leave his seat so that I could sit next to... More

We headed in here after dinner one night to find an atmospheric and cosy New York nightspot where we drank at the bar and listened to some truly excellent live jazz. A brilliant night. So glad we stumbled in.

We were in New York / Brooklyn when our landlady advised us to go to 55 Bar, should we be interested in jazz. How right she was. This amazing jewel at Christopher Street turned out to be such a good advice. Really cool jazz in an almost living room environment. And even at affordable prices.

The 55 Bar is the best little bar for truly great music that you can find. This is a very small bar, holding maybe 60 or 70 people at the most which makes it a very intimate venue. The musicians are always amazing, and the cost is so very little it's crazy. There's a $10 cover, and 2 drink minimum,... More

Fantastic dive bar with amazing musicians. David Bowie discovered his band for his last album here. Small venue so helps to get in early, but for such a small space the sound was incredible! Could easily hear everybody and nobody was overpowered. Had work colleague take me when I was in the area and it was one of my favourite... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
