Thanks to the French Ambassador Dubois, we had the pleasure to discover this lovely house facing the « sublime «  private gardens at Gramercy place South. Delicious restaurant and a Chef of high quality. Interesting gallery for art shows.

Small gallery located in a brownstone in a quiet neighborhood. The man by the reception is kind of arrogant and is definitely not the friendliest.

Three of four galleries were open (the following week the other would also have an exhibition). A quiet place across from lovely Gramercy Park. Some exhibits are from Club members. Others are guest artists. We saw 3 shows, two from members, the other from a French photographer. All interesting.

Invited to speak there and immediately wanted to join. Gorgeous stained glass, velvet covered walls. A place of treasured memories.

This is a private club in an old mansion on Gramercy Park that opens up several areas for public art shows. If you are in the area it is nice to drop it and see some interesting new art, though selections vary frequently. You also see the remains of a gracious old NYC mansion, although it has had a bit of alteration over the years. Still a nice reminder of old NYC, including remaining paintings from past members, including the likes of Henri and many others.

I was pleased to show this beautiful building to my sister in law on her visit to NYC.. we only had a few hours to explore and I remembered this charming spot. (I'd attended an event here many years ago) To my delight, the gallery is open to the public and free of charge.
We enjoyed the many paintings on display. I believe they were all for sale as well.
Downstairs we're what seemed to be permanent installations of sculpture and paintings
The first floor salon is Members Only but there is plenty to see for the rest of us. We spent about an hour looking at the art presented upstairs and admiring the beautiful architecture throughout.
This is a gem hidden in plain site. Add it to your NYC walking plans one day , plenty of cafes nearby and an easy walk from transit.

I felt like I'd entered a novel when I stayed with a couple of friends at the National Arts Club as guests of an artist friend upon the opening reception for her art show. There's nothing quite like this old school club where art is everywhere! The rooms and beds are small and most bathrooms are shared. If you're looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. If you seek character and an air of mystery, something truly unique--this is the place. We enjoyed the older art on every wall and in the nooks and crannies as well as the more modern exhibit in gallery.
