- Zach CFort Worth, Texas138 contributionsComedy goldWe did the MacDougal site. Well organized and managed. Despite a small and crappy environment, the waiters do a great job serving you. We had some last minute lineup changes that were a bummer but understand that’s the nature of that business. We still had an amazing time.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 September 2023
- Luv2ski11Hamilton, Canada53 contributionsExcellent evening of continuous laughsWe had an excellent experience at the Comedy Cellar. The process, from booking tickets online, to putting phones in a secure case to carry in, to be shown to our seats, was seamless and quick. The service was great. But the real highlight, of course, was the comics. They were all outstanding! Each is different in style and technique but all equally hilarious. I would 100% recommend this as an evening out in NYC.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 September 2023
- Fel23 contributionsAmazing Comedy Show on a Thursday NightMake sure to reserve tickets in advance. Best comedy show in new york. Well organized. Good price. Cool Rooms. Cell phones get put into a bag to create more appropriate setting. Drinks and food were also good.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Matthew JNew York City, New York18 contributionsI'm already planning my next visitWe decided that we fancied seeing some comedy impromptu. We didn't think we had much of a chance, but we headed over to Comedy Cellar an hour before kick-off. We were added to a wait-list and told to come back as the show started. Anyone who would think our chances were slim (including myself) would be wrong! So a word of advice; this actually works. The comedy itself was fantastic, it was a quality line-up with some semi famous names. You're required to drink 2 drinks each, which wasn't a problem, and the service was excellent. They confiscate your phones and watches on entry which is a nice touch too. To our surprise when we left, almost 2 hours had passed. I'm already planning my next visit.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 November 2023
- judithsC4237AFHewlett, New York25 contributionsA fun night for allDave Attell was doing a benefit for my Temple. I walk with a cane as I have very poor vision, in addition I am 92. When I arrived and I saw all the steps, I became nervous. One of the Security personnel came over to me and said, "D'ont worry, I will get you to the elevator". He stayed with me and took me to my seat. After the show, he came back to take me upstairs. He even waited for me to use the Restroom. The show was excellent and there was no "pushing" of drinks and food. This is definitely a keeper.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 26 December 2023
- Stephanie C42 contributionsGreat organization the very funnyWe didn't see any big names but everyone we saw was funny. They put your phone in a case but you get to keep it and they will play funny clips ahead of time so you'll be entertained. Seated quickly with good organization close to the stage.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 January 2024
- Francisco SantosVillars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland11 contributionsEverything I expected it to beThis was a massive ticket item I crossed off my bucket list. The venue is absolutely fantastic and the staff is very friendly. I was surprised with the quality of the food — chicken kebab was great, and the french fries were delicious and abundant. Coming in solo, I had to share a table with someone that also came alone. I was very lucky that I landed with someone that was nice and was also there for the show.. not everyone's cup of tea but it did work for me. ARRIVE EARLY so that you can get good seats.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 February 2024
- tinaNtravelSan Jose, California2,009 contributionsHad a lot of fun and a lot of laughsFirst, you line up outside around the corner on the side street. They give you an envelope and all phones need to be sealed in the envelope. You get to hold the envelope, so your phone is always with you. They just want to attempt to ensure you don’t use it during the show. You then enter and are placed in a rather tight area while the server tries to quickly take orders before the show starts. It’s a 2-drink minimum, but those 2 drinks can be bottled water, for example. Including the host, we saw 6-7 comedians. One was from SNL and one I had seen on America’s Got Talent. Two were very funny – nonstop laughing, one was not funny and the rest were average – some laughs here and there. All in all it was a great time and I’d go back.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 April 2024

- Laura5 contributionsGreat time flying solo at the Comedy CellarSo much fun! I really wanted to go to the 11:30 show but was a bit hesitant going solo as a female tourist. The surrounding area is bright and lively at 11:30 and everyone at the Cellar was so friendly. They put me by other people flying solo so it was nice to have others to chat with while seated before the show. So happy I came to this historic spot, I had a really great time.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 2 May 2024

My wife and attended the Thursday 9:30 pm show. We booked ahead, which I recommend. They have the people moving process down to a science. You can stop into the adjacent bar for a drink while in the cue for the next show. We were asked if we wanted a front table, which we accepted. The show was a hoot. Being in the front row did allow the comedians to bounce some of their lines off us. If you want to be anonymous don't sit in the front. For us it made the experience more memorable. Some acts struck us funnier than others, but that's how comedy works, right?

The comedians were mostly great, especially the 2 women but my husband and I were sat in a corner and 2 people were sat next to us in a tiny booth. I didn’t mind being smashed into a small space but we had to contort ourselves to even be able to see the comedians and not well. When I brought up the concerns to an employee she acted like she didn’t understand me to the point that one of the people in the same table even tried to explain to her. I said clearly “we came to see the show and we can’t see the performers”. Her solution: well you can leave if you want… I get newyorkers have a rude reputation to uphold but this was beyond ridiculous and upsetting. We paid for this show just like everyone else and we had a right to see the comedians expressions just like everyone else… we came all the way from Florida and were excited about seeing this show and left with a bad taste in our mouths honestly.

Our party of three made reservations for the early Wednesday night show, pretty sure we would not have gotten in without them. Great drinks, the food looked good but we had just eaten so we did not order any. 3 of the 5 comedians were hilarious and I’m pretty sure we did not stop laughing for their entire set, 1 was meh, the other was interesting but did not quite hit the funny bone. The MC was also great. Be prepared to check your electronics. We will definitely be returning to this venue the next time we visit!

We attended the Monday night 7:30 show and it was great! Each act was great (some funnier than others) and very engaging with the crowd. The venue itself is a lot smaller than I had imagined but that's not a bad thing. We did show up earlier than 7:30 because we finished with our dinner reservations earlier than anticipated and went upstairs to the bar. The bartender was not the friendliest and was not interested in any small talk that we tried to make. That was the only downside. He acted like he really didn't want to be there.

I’ve been doing stand up comedy for 5+ years. This. By far. Was the. Worst experience of all time. Tried to go there with my mother and we were so excited!! (Apparently— “too excited”) We made reservations and got there 30 minutes early. I was definitely hyped up to see 2 of my favorite comics in the line up. This show started at 11:30PM so we were just walking back from dinner. The bouncer came up to my 68 year old mother and I and wrote “manager” on our phone bags that we had put on silence and seal closed. We were also with 2 of my business partners who were behind us in line. We continued to talk to multiple guests around us about how cool the comedians were and how we drove 3+ hours to see them. As we proceeded to the front of the line they pulled us aside and said I was “too intoxicated” to attend and they couldn’t put the comics “at risk”. (Note: that with my experience in comedy I would absolutely never heckle or disrespect another comedian). This was a Tuesday night and we each had one glass of wine. I couldn’t believe it until they confirmed they were being serious and told us “maybe you can come back tomorrow night”. I will never go back or recommend this establishment. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had within the comedy industry. I was not only embarrassed by coworkers but my mother as well. After the line went through, I attempted to reason with them again and they completely wrote me off. Hope they will do better in the future. I will never attempt to attend a show run by them again.

The worst experience ever!!
We were a group of 5 and had made reservation with upfront payment of 150$ for a table. We arrived 3 minutes late and our table was given away!! People on the door were extremely rude and provided us separate seats for all of the group. The show was of poor quality and their jokes used only offensive language!!
Not worth anyone’s time to go there!!
Much better shows to attend in Manhattan!!

If it's too late to make a reservation, don't fret, just show up about 1 hour before the showtime, and the bouncers will show you where to line up (just around the corner) for standby tickets. At 50 minutes before the show, they will come by to take down your names and tell you to come back at showtime. This place is just a block from Washington Square, so you can go there to wait out the hour (if it's not too late or dark), or grab a quick bite or drink somewhere nearby (lots of pubs and restaurants around). Be sure to be back before the showtime, and line up at the same spot you did before. The bouncers will come to get the standbys by the list. We had about 10 people in the standby line and almost all of us got in. But they didn't take anyone who came after that. The room was packed but service was impeccable despite that. There was a lineup of about 6 comedians, some were funnier than others but all were pretty good. We enjoyed ourselves - it was an unforgettable New York experience. The MC was a comedian who creates apps to help the homeless in the daytime and comedy at night, and he was phenomenal! So worth the wait and experience! We had salad and nachos. Salad was better.

This was such an amazing night. We went during the week to a NEW JOKE night. It was hilarious and inexpensive. Id go every week if I lived in NYC. This night apparently is about people ( sometimes famous comedians) testing out their new joke material. the food was really good and not through the roof.

We attended two seatings here on a recent weekend in NYC, both shows were hilarious. One show was in the large showroom (in the cellar) and one was on the main floor by the bar (smaller and more intimate). Liked both venues!! Colin Quinn showed up at one of the shows which was a nice surprise. Lots of great talent on both nights. Highly recommend!!

I came here on a date and had an absolute blast. I saw Jackie fabulous and friends. Her show was hilarious! I can’t remember who was funnier as every host had their own jokes. I heard of this place from listening to the podcast, “Guys we fu*ked” and although, I wasn’t in town to catch the comedians off that show, I was glad to come to see a great show regardless. I laughed so much, my cheeks were hurting. Thank you for a good laugh and a great time! Would definitely recommend coming here for a great night out with friends, date, or just for the giggles.
Two items minimum as per usual for most comedy clubs. But you can order food if you’re not a drinker.
