Neighbourhood: Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighbourhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.

This is a welcoming place. The staff are friendly, even at 5:30 AM. They have a full and complete range of exercise equipment, all well maintained and completely current. There is a basketball court and a lap swimming pool. They have a wide range of exercise classes as well and locker rooms. Everything is well maintained. I have probably left out an item or two. Overall, this is a great place to get the exercise you want and/or need.

Because the rooms are very basic... just a bed and a TV (and a fridge) the rooms are also your cheapest option to explore NYC. Located half a block from a subway station (red lines). Clean rooms with bunk beds, and shared clean bathrooms. Recommended!

horrible. shared showers with dirty slimy (not exaggerating) floors. Bugs in the rooms - book beds. rooms the size of a UK box room if that. One mediocre heater that isn't an air conditioner in summer. You have to pay to use the hotel safe and you have to go all the way downstairs to put stuff in/get stuff out. Only 2 elevators so be prepared to wait ages to get on or be stuffed in with 15 others. Honestly just horrible.. Bring flip flops to go to the shower and a robe as bathroom must walk through a shared corridor with strangers. Also, don't get me started on the shared toilets. No private toilets. No food/restaurant but given the rooms and view from the window (imagine coming to america with eddie murphy - yes) i wouldn't eat there anyway. Would not ever stay again.
