Top ways to experience Columbus Park
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Chinatown
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.

I found it to be a bit crowded.

A few street musicians provided pleasant entertainment.

Reasonably clean facility.

Decent grounds.

Not much to see.

The Columbus Park is located in Chinatown with plenty of trees, benches and open space. However, It was kind of crowded and the maintenance wasn’t too good.

There was lots of trash and the smell was terrible. We tried to have our take out there since dining in was not allowed during COVID-19, but the environment was too gross to eat. We ended up having our lunch in the car.

It would be good to take a short walk but we won’t recommend to stay long there.

I got up early for breakfast at a little restaurant across the street and walked over to watch locals practice tai chi in the park. I’m always interested in how folks in the city spend their time. Nice benches to sit and rest. Plenty of trees to provide shade if the day is hot.

Columbus park is a nice place to come and relax in the Little Italy / Chinatown area, located a half block off of Canal Street. We visited in the evening and it was great to sit for 30 minutes- people playing board games, some playing music on traditional Chinese musical instruments, a statue of Sun Yat-Sen (founder of of modern China in the center of the park), some older people practicing Tai Chi, basketball courts and a building edifice/ pavilion where some Chinese ladies were practicing a group dance with an instructor.

This park is set in one of the most densely populated places on Earth, so very necessary for the local folks. Come and enjoy all the activity.

Columbus Park is the hub of a very vibrant community that's named Chinatown. During our evening stroll, we located the park. Full of people, young and old enjoying the warm spring weather.

We loved the blossoming Cherry Trees, the musical accompaniment and the joy observed at this park. It's truly the cultural hub of the neighbourhood. People chatting, playing games and outside. Surrounded by great Chinese restaurants, stores and bakeries. It's fun to nose around.

Worth a moment to enjoy nature.

There is much to be learned of the dark pasts of the surrounding buildings and streets, brothels and opium dens, but this park is the center of life of this transformed neighborhood, fit for families to raise their children. In the heart of the park, we see this in the games of Mahjong between old men, and the daycare playgrounds full of children and laughter. There are basketball courts and tennis nets, pathways and walkways leading from end to end, trees and gardens full of flowers. We took up space on one of the benches and enjoyed a snack from one of the nearby shops, fending off hungry pigeons. If you are walking through Chinatown and are looking for a good place for a break, this is a great spot to come and people-watch, or get out of the sun.

We visited about 5:00 in the evening. Activity was going on everywhere, singers, card players, soccer, etc. mainly senior adults but some younger adults and kids. Plenty of benches and shade.

Columbus Park is a park in Chinatown, which means most people there are Chinese. The park is small and has a few swings and slides for children.
It also has a building with a toilet, which is handy.

The local park for the Chinese community is a great place to people watch especially the competitive elderly woman playing cards , its a nice area but seemingly it has a dark past with gang warfare and lots of crime a hundred years ago but in the spring sunshine it was a very pleasant diversion.
