About
Chelsea Market is a world-famous food hall in the heart of New York City's Meatpacking District. Commonly featured in walking and food tours, the market has an array of dining options that draw both locals and travelers. Set aside a couple of hours to conquer the corridors of this sprawling indoor marketplace. Many travelers load up on fresh produce, prime cuts of meat, artisanal cheeses, and even imported Italian dry goods. For more elbow room, visit either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Plus, keep a lookout for delicious free samples and the quaint bookstore on site. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.

Cool indoor market with varied eating options
A fantastic (and huge) space in an old biscuit factory. Some arty shops and lots of eatery outlets all set out amidst exposed brick walls, wrought iron girders and fairy lights. We walked the floor first to see what was on offer and then settled on a Mediterranean food outlet called Miznon. Managed to get seated quickly at a high table. Tucked into a delicious falafel burger with green chilli sauce - everything about it was fantastic. If it wasn’t so filling I would have gone back for a second! My husband was similarly complementary about his lamb kofta pitta. I understand from a friend that the market can get super busy but it wasn’t too bad on a Winter’s day in February!

Fun place, but can be very crowded
I enjoyed Chelsea market, but please have your expectations in check. There are plenty of food options - some more take out, a few restaurants, lots of Asian and Mexican and bakeries. There are not always places to sit an eat the food, however. If you go over lunch it is very crowded. I expected more shops and was disappointed when there seemed to be more eateries than places to shop. The decor is interesting and I enjoyed the artwork. There were a lot of school field trips bringing the students in for meals when I was there. Caught breakfast the next morning and it was a whole lot less crowded. We saw plenty of security and felt safe. Public restrooms were available. Food was not overpriced. Definitely worth a stop, especially if your group has different tastes.

    A Lovely Urban Market
A terrific urban mall/market with shops, restaurants and more in a trendy part of Manhattan. My son and I took his two oldest (7 and 4) with us looking for baseball hats with NY on them. We weren't successful, but we got all kinds of mileage out of the visit. The kids were JAZZED.

Great spot for lunch and shopping
Great place for lunch. We went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was slammed. Be prepared for crowds and waits. However, it is a very cool place to stop in for some shopping, some lunch or a drink. Plenty of options for everyone.

Cool shops and so many yummy food options
So so many food options in market and some beautiful and very unique craft shops. Very busy for a good reason, so some patience required. Might help to have an idea of which food places you’re aiming for as it’s an avenue long and some shops could be missed. Handy covered seating just outside on north and south sides.

Lots of quirky shops & restaurant in reconditioned Manhattan food warehouse
The Chelsea Market. has lots of quirky shops & restaurant in a reconditioned Manhattan Meatpacking District food warehouse. The multiple floors have lots of interesting shops to see, but note that the interior can be crowded on busy weekends. Visiting on a weekday may be a better option.

    This place is AWESOME!
I went to The Sherri Show and decided to enjoy New York. I was so so happy finding this place. It’s a must do if you’re in the area. Make sure you have funds to shop because you will have a hard time no going bananas. I’m going back again soon!! ♥️

Nice, but not that big and pretty packed
We went for lunch on a Saturday while it was raining outside - so pretty much worst case scenario, and it was indeed very full. Good mix of food and merchandise stores, but not a huge selection, after ca. half an hour you've seen everything. We liked the restaurant we chose for lunch, Friedman's, one of the few sit-down places with table service.

    As seen on Food Network
If you’re a foody and want to go where the food network stars have gone it is a fun stop. Be prepared to wait in line for the food of your choice. There are a few non food related stores. If you’re staying in Manhattan or near time square a taxi or Uber is a must. We walked it. Fun to see the city by foot but in June a rather hot trip

We popped in here for a warm up after a wander around the area in the freezing cold. There are many shops and stalls selling a variety of items. We bought some chocolate bars from A Taste of Economy Candy which we cannot get in the UK and they were all yummy. The market is like an industrial warehouse and is very well done and great to wander around.

I love the vibe of the whole market. You need to navigate around the tourists. But once inside the little stores, restaurants or markets you can find very nice treasures.

Over crowded- over priced- mediocre food!
The building itself was beautiful. The cobblestone flooring and arch way architecture was magnificent!

A very unique and nice indoor market with lots of dining options and many nice shops. Go early, as it tends to get very crowded.

Chelsea Market is a foodie mecca, not far from the Whitney Museum. The number of options here is overwhelming. One of our personal favorites is the halva/tahini spot Seed + Mill, which offers soft service ice cream with tahini and halva. The market is usually quite crowded and offers limited seating, so keep that in mind if you are deciding to bring a group here.

Definitely worth a stop off from the Whitney Museum or the High Line (High Line actually passes it, you can get off right there). I went around the holidays, it was a little too crowded and not enough places to sit if you did want to get something to eat, but….lots of yummy looking food choices, and plenty of people had found a perch somewhere to enjoy a quick meal. I filled a basket with utterly unnecessary German Xmas goodies (I’m a sucker for soft gingerbread) at one market, then made my way through the crowd to stare at Curry Wurst from a crew I recognized as having THE BEST brats—I didn;t have anything, but a sweet Australian mom there said they;d just eaten from there and loved it (think: brats with onion/sourkrout, on good bread, with perfect potato salad…). I asked their little boy if he’d liked it, and he gave me a big, catsup speckled smile, as well as a jaunty thumbs up. So you know it;s good. :)

This former Nabisco factory complex invented and produced the famed Oreo cookie . The old building was gutted out in the 90s and transformed into a market that is alive and well. It can get crowded quickly so try to go on the off hours when they open in the morning or after lunch.
