Beautiful tribute to Washington

We enjoyed seeing this while walking through the village. This is an intricate and stunning tribute to George Washington.

Impressive monument to an important politician. Other than that nothing special around. Nice to see many people - many dogs on weekends.

This is a MUST visit for anyone who is visiting NY. The view is spectacular, for best photos I would recommend the visit at the morning hours when the sun is enlightening the Island. I was lucky with the weather and walked all the way from the new Trade Center through the Brooklyn Bridge to the promenade. It is a... More

I specifically came to see this arch as I've seen it in movies and books about NYC. It is in Washington Square park within Greenwich Village and close to the trains. I enjoyed just walking around and seeing the locals who stayed nearby as well as taking pictures of this beautiful arch. I would recommend people to come here and... More

Washington Square Park is a great location to get a taste of what being a Greenwich Village local feels like. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire atmosphere, from the unique people to the beautiful scenery, especially the arc. In the midst of one of the largest cities in the world, everyone in the park seems to be so relaxed. Dog walking,... More

Lovely square. Families can bring their children and many relaxing in this park and taking pictures. Don' miss it, if in NYC.

I was surprised at the number of people who were there considering how cold it was when I visited. The arc is pretty cool and between that and the rest of the square it is definitely worth a visit. There was a gentleman playing piano while I was there and it was a perfect accent to being able to sit and... More

You just gotta visit Washington Square if you are in NYC. The arch itself is much more majestic than what you usually see in the movies. Lots of music going on, from somebody who played classical piano (with the grand piano in the middle of the park) to some mediocre xylophone that didn't seem to get the right tune. We... More

The Arch at Washington Square park is certainly one that needs to be seen in person. Always seen in movies it is unmistakeable when you come across it and it is certainly one you will want to get up close to and take in. Washington Square Park itself is great fun, full of entertainers and places to sit and eat.... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
