Best Pub in New York

The beer is delicious, staff are great, if it had been closer to my hotel I would probably have spent most of my holiday there.

We recently stopped in at McSorley's Old Ale House for a pint or two of their signature cream ale. We were not disappointed. The ale was cold and refreshing. Our server was a nice gentleman who was very pleasant and polite. If you are ever in this part of Manhattan and want to relax, have a cold drink and chat... More

You get two beers at a time and your only choices are light or dark. Friendly staff, great history, wonderful visit!

This dingy, sawdust strewn relic of a bygone era is a delight. An atmosphere of relaxed indifference is created by staff who have better things to do than pester you and a beer menu that has only two options: light or dark. You can't help but relax and talk to the person you're with.

Makes it a lot easier when you only have to choose from light or dark beer. My favorite is the dark but both types are really good. High quality burger and humongous fries.

If you're planning a visit to NYC and want to experience some of its rich history, plan on stopping in at 15 E. 7th Street (just west of 2nd Avenue) for some lights and some darks. McSorley's has character and stories in almost every nook and cranny in the bar. It serves one beer (McSorley's Ale) either light or dark.... More

Absolutely brilliant! If you want to step back in time this is the place to go. Only two drinks available dark or light. Atmosphere great! But don't expect any frills because you won't get any.

Went on a friends recommendation and believe me there are no other places like this in the world. Sawdust on the floor, only light or dark beer available. The staff encourage a communal atmosphere with many people sharing tables. FYI this place is cash only!

Time travel experience indeed. Everything is kept simple, no tv no music. Bar like a museum 😍 with all those vinatge balck and white pictures, newspaper clippings and saw dust on the floor.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
