From its inception, Macy's Herald Square was a store unlike any other. Over the past 150 years, it has become a true New York City icon. Built in 1902, Macy's Herald Square was the first building to have the modern-day escalator, and it has continued to be a trendsetter. Today, "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of the latest fashions for you and your home. Macy's offers a full-service Visitor Center on the Mezzanine Level, plus restaurants throughout the store and exciting events almost every day.

A quick visit but nothing special

We just had to make a visit to Macy's while in New York, but we didn't buy anything. We'd done all of our shopping at home or the airport on the way out, so there's nothing we really need. And we're not the sort of people to spend just for the sake of it. Macy's is a great store, a... More

Macy's was the world's largest retail store in the world till 2009. There you can find almost anything from famous clothes brands to kitchenware. We spent over 2 hours just to check the whole store out and then went back to stores we wanted to shop. My wife loved the branded handbags. Stuff in every shop was polite and helpful... More

4.9.17 It has been a few years since I was here and they have changed the store interior a lot. It is more open, they mix food outlets on various floors along with the regular retail. Way better than before but still not in the class of the former great 5/5 Wanamaker's of Philadelphia, or 5/5 KaDaWe of Berlin in... More

I make it a point to visit Macy's Flower Show every year and 2017 is no exception. I was there yesterday and it was outstanding. I loved the circus theme with the animated animals. But the best part of all were the displays of flowers. Oh, those colors, types and fragrances. What a thrill! And to think this event takes... More

It was my first time visiting a Macy's. I had heard much about Macy's, and it turned out to be a massive store with all sorts of brands in various sections. Perhaps like a giant mega store. The visit was okay, though I ended up not buying a thing from there.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
