Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York, you live it! Streetwise New York explores neighborhoods, recounts history and studies contrast--but does so knowing that New York’s essence isn’t listed in guidebooks or displayed in museums. The true New York is melted into slices of pizza, hidden in subways, and carried in the ever-changing stories of its 8.5 million people.

We arrived in New York on a Wednesday night and took Dan's tour the following morning as a way to get our bearings. Dan picked us up at our TriBeCa hotel and was the perfect guide . I really liked that it was so personal - it was just my husband and I - and he took us all through... More

When we met Dan in the afternoon, I asked him to adapt the tour to meet the needs of a young guest that was in NY for the first time. He showed us around the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy and was so knowledgeable about the area that he made the tour fascinating. Moreover, he adjusted his information... More

Sonya was an excellent guide to the city. Organised by the Pod hotel she showed us how to manage the subway and get to the Chelsea markets Meatpacking area then then Highline to the Manhattan. Her knowledge of the history and buildings was brilliant and made for a really fascinating trip around the city. I highly recommend Streetwise Tours Karen

I really enjoyed the Chinatown and lower East Side Street Art walking tour with my guide Sonya. Lots of quirky information about the area and lots of background knowledge of the street art which was great. I ended up with some cool photos for my collection. Definitely recommend this tour.

Andrew customized the tour to our interests and comfort level of walking. He shared great information and engaging history to each of the areas we toured. We highly recommend this way to get the best feel for the real NYC areas.

We met Dan at the Essex Street Market from which he commenced a 3-hour tour of the Lower East Side, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho and Greenwich Village for the two of us. His style is friendly and the tour is packed with plenty of facts and figures, as well as some out of the way places that we would never... More

We got to take the tours via our stay at the Pod 51 hotel. The first tour we took was the Little Italy and Soho areas. Dan was our tour guide and he did a fantastic job. He had lots of history to share about the area with his own experiences sprinkled in. We like the tour so much we... More

Really had fun with Dan who showed us little known areas of this part of NY as well as a subway stop that is no longer a stop! Great experience and if we'd had a few more days in the city would definitely have taken advantage of more tours! Highly recommend!

Got to take 5 tours and it was far more incredible than we expected. Proffesionalism and fun combined for the perfect tours around NYC. Took home lots of knowledge of the city that probably would'nt have learnt if it wasn't for these awesome people.

My husband and I did a private walking tour of Brooklyn with Dan and had a really enjoyable day! We felt like we were hanging out with an old friend as we meandered around the neighborhoods and he shared stories, history and special places we would never have found on our own. This was one of the most fun things... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
