"One of the TOP 10 rooftop bars in the world." - Premier Traveler Magazine Top of the Strand, set like a jewel on the 21st floor of The Strand Hotel, is Midtown Manhattan's most spectacular urban oasis. A retractable glass roof over the intimate rooftop lounge designed by Lydia Marks shows off the New York skyline year round. With its friendly atmosphere, dazzling views, well-made drinks and tasty light fare, Top of the Strand is New York City's favorite rooftop bar.

This was a recommendation from Lonely Planet.... and so glad we followed it up. Stunning night time views of Empire State Building, fab tunes and a great choice of reasonably priced drinks and snacks. Definitely recommend!

This hotel has design features that make it unique but uncomfortable. First, the exterior sign hangs upside down without illumination, making the hotel's entrance nearly impossible to locate from the street. There is virtually no storage in the room. There's ample opportunities for the hotel to add a shelf in the closet (the ONLY place you could place anything that... More

A MUST go to for a cocktail! Rooftop bar looking directly at the Empire State Building! Great cocktail list, retractable glass roof and the best view in the city. We were lucky enough to get a huge thunderstorm while we were up there. They closed the glass roof, but the show of the lightening all around the lit up Empire... More

The bar is small and the service extremely slow (but courteous) and you need to get there early if you want a seat or be prepared to move fast to get one (think Duck Duck Goose fast). This is the BEST place to see the views - head spinning views. The drinks are drinks and there was no food (NO... More

Top of the Strand is a rooftop bar set at 21st floor of The Strand Hotel, in Midtown Manhattan, offers you a spectacular view on New York skyline and the Empire state building, amazing view in the night. Good cocktails, friendly atmosphere, a lot of people, few seats, quite pricey.

I went here with friends, looking for a roof top bar and we were pleasantly surprised. The bar was crowded, but didn't feel overwhelming, as there were comfortable seats with an incredible view. We sat in a sofa like seating area with canopy like cover overhead which made our group feel like we had privacy. The service was great and... More

The best thing about this bar is the view of the Empire State Building. Unfortunately, the night we visited, there was a couple making out and there was no way to avoid looking at them while looking at the ESB. Management should have asked them to leave. Planned to have drinks and appetizers but informed no food on weekends because... More

Small but definitely worth a visit. Very friendly staff, and great views. Cocktails are expensive but worth it. Will go back.

Large TV for sports, bar top seats with low couches in lounge area. Not a lot of room. The Strand is now a Marriott FYI. Drinks were average - not a large cocktail menu but servers very nice and accommodating. Only food was chips or peanuts.

This is a fun spot for a drink. The glass roof retracts when the weather is nice. It was rainy when we were there, but cozy and warm inside.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
