We found this store from previous reviews and decieded to visit, as its a store devoted to candy alone. It has just about everything and it reminded you of old favourites plus candy we hadn't ever seen as we are Australians. It was fund to buy treats for work mates etc but it was so hard as there is so... More

I can't remember where I heard about this place but I took a ride over and it was well worth it. Nice people, can candy everywhere, there's not an inch of wasted space. I especially like that it had a lot of my childhood favorites that I didn't even know were made anymore---plus a nice variety of hard to find... More

All of the candy and chocolates you have ever dreamed of, jam-packed into one tiny store. The staff is friendly and helpful in finding things, and there is no shortage of yummy treats here. They have all the unique candies you can't find anywhere else. I love it!

Economy Candy is filled with pleasures, new and old. The store got its start in the Depression on Rivington Street in the 1930s (hence the very Depression-friendly name). I love stopping by and picking up a small sampling of some of the old brands I remember as a kid -- my dream was to be a travelling salesman so I... More

If you are close by, you should really visit the store and by some sweet candy. But I would recommend not going out of your way to go there. Especially if you are just visiting NY for a couple of days.

If you can't find it here, it probably hasn't been produced in many years. If every conceivable type of current candy isn't enough of an incentive to visit, they stock hundreds of old favorites as well as EVERY type of Pez dispenser (well, almost-there are hundreds here), color of M&M, type of sixlet and flavor of jelly belly jelly bean... Read a review about this store-they weren't exaggerating-this place has more candy stuffed inside it's walls than you can imagine. The walk to get there was part of the charm-as a tourist, I loved walking through this part of NYC-it was a colorful stroll through a unique area. Once there, the candy options can be a little overwhelming. I had... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
