A nice stroll down to the southernmost part of Manhattan along the banks of the Hudson river
Starting at the World Trade Center (sic) my son & I strolled further south and into Battery Park, walking along the banks of the Hudson river and down to the very southernmost tip of Manhattan. It was quite a pleasant walk with few people there other than those on their mid morning jogging routines. As we approached the first of the various piers taking people across to Ellis Island, the Statue of liberty and the Governors Island it got progressively busier. And as we approached the terminal for the Staten Island ferry it got crowded with tourists, visitors & locals crowding on to the free Staten Island ferry. I didn't really take to the many hawkers selling their cut fruit, tourist gifts, pictures etc. In fact they got on my nerves so much that we left without exploring all that this part of Manhattan has to offer. Oh, and by the way, on a busy day it was not good to find that the only well signposted restrooms around were closed to the public. In my case the bushes close by got a free watering...

    Beautiful relaxing park
Great atmosphere. Our daughter loved the Glass carousel. Nice to walk around with the kids. Loved the breeze and the view on lady Liberty. A lot of chairs to sit down. Close to the WTC memorial and free ferry to Staten Island.

Fabulous area for shoreline strolling and picnics
The weather helped, as this was a glorious sunny day at the beginning of October. A lovely meandering stroll along the shoreline from South Ferry to mid-town, lots of points of interest along the way, and lovely to see so many families relaxing in the green spaces. Avoid the $10 flavourless ice cream vans and head one street inland for proper ice cream at half the price

Desperately Seeking Susan, Jimmy and Roberta
I am a really big fan of the movie Desperately Seeking Susan and this is where alot of the characters meet during the film. As I was visiting New York I really wanted to check out the infamous Battery Park. From here you can get a ferry across to Ellis Island and Liberty Island. Also the ferry terminal for the Staten Island Ferry is really close too. The park is a nicely restored area which has alot of history with people coming to America and this would have been one of the places they would have arrived. There are various monuments in the area. There is a large green area where you can walk your dog and also lots of places to sit and relax and enjoy the view. It's been transformed since the movie (OK, it was over 30 years ago) and it's a really nice area to relax after a day exploring New York City.

Beautiful park overlooking New York Harbor
Pretty park overlooking New York Harbor. There are tons of different monuments and statues along with flora galore. You can even see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the park, and there are also boats that take you to the two islands. Overall the park, at the Southernmost tip of Manhattan, is a must see and I highly recommend visiting!

How to see the Statue of Liberty without getting on a boat.
If you are looking for a viewing spot where you can see the Statue of Liberty without having to get on a boat, then this is your option. Go to Battery Park and you will see the statue across the harbor. The Bowling Green subway station is just a block from the viewing point. The picture was taken on an overcast day before the rain arrived. I am sure the view is better on a clear sunny day. Don’t forget to see the Bull statue on Wall Street while you are in this neighborhood, only one block from the park.

A Gem in Lower Manhattan, Beautiful Views and Serenity
Battery Park is an absolute gem located on the southern tip of Manhattan. We had a perfect time - the weather was not too cold, and the park was lively but not overly crowded. As soon as you enter the park, you're greeted with stunning views of the Hudson River and the iconic Statue of Liberty. The green spaces are well-maintained, with plenty of benches and open areas to relax and take in the scenery. The park's promenades along the waterfront offer breathtaking vantage points to admire the Manhattan skyline and the bustling harbour. This place is a must-visit for anyone visiting New York City.

Historic Park with Views of New York Harbor
Battery Park located at the southernmost point of Manhattan offers scenic views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty in the distance. This is also the location where you can get a boat tour to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, but book timed tickets in advance. The Battery has its own important history as this was once the site of an artillery battery and military defense network originally built in the 17th century and in place until after the War of 1812. The British landed here at the beginning of the Revolutionary War when they captured New York. Castle Clinton is also found here. Once a part of this defense network and later turned into a theater and later an immigration center predating Ellis Island.

    A lovely stepping stone
Although we still call it 'Battery Park', but it isn't the destination as many other parks in the city, at least for me. Every time I went there, was passing through it to get to elsewhere. A little guilty. It does have many things to offer: water front monuments restaurants bars gardens sculptures ferries to Liberty Island ...

    Memorial Day Stroll
Took the pups through park for a Memorial Day stroll. Battery park seems to have a lot of construction going on right now so there were lots of boarded off areas. Pretty sure there is more of the park to see than I did today.

The park is also close to several tourist attractions and the financial district. Most tourists only come here to board the ferry to Liberty and Ellis Islands. Whilst the park itself isn't anything above average for NYC, it is clean and it is worth taking some time out to enjoy a walk, run or a short rest on a bench. The park has amazing views of Lady Liberty and Manhattan’s skyscrapers, as well as some interesting memorials and statues.

The Battery Park is a very large park near the harbor. This is a great place to walk around or sit on a bench or on the grass for a picnic. There are a number of statues in the park, including a memorial to those who perished in the US Navy. You also get a great view of the Statue of Liberty from the park.

The sculptures and monuments in this never-used fort are a walking testament of NYC history and how commerce has always trumped the NY need for defence. The park has an array of fantastic sculptures with the downtown NY skyline as a backdrop. Well worth checking out the reconstructed models of the NY harbour through the ages at Castle Clinton (also known as Castle Gardens) This fort became a concert arena and later an aquarium. Built as a fort with an array of cannons as a knee-jerk reaction to the British occupation following the War of Independence, it never once fired a cannon.

Battery Park had many places for a person to sit in a grassy area and to enjoy walking alongside the Hudson River. There were many fancy apartments and restaurants located alongside this walkway. Directly across from where I was standing was New Jersey, and I got great views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The ferries to Jersey City and Hoboken, the PATH train from the World Trade Center, and the subway stations were all located nearby this area. The Westside Highway is not too far, but a person should expect traffic and parking difficulties.

How can one visit NY and not experience Battery park. It's a welcoming site filled with green spaces, floral & booming with History in this concrete jungle. In addition to several memorial statues, there's views of the Hudson & East Rivers and you can see Statue of Liberty in the background.

Battery park offers such fantastic view , it is so refreshing to sit near the sea and watch the setting Sun, the yachts , go for a run on the track with greenery on the sides.
There are small parks for kids . A whole plethora of eateries and residential complex encircles the battery park .
Rightly named so, it charges the human batteries 😊

Well-maintained park at the tip of the island with great views of Lady Liberty, Jersey City and the skyscrapers of Wall St. Some museums here. Places to sit. Lots of statutes and memorials as this was the original settlement of the city.

We flew into LaGuardia for our 10-day tour of New York and Vermont specifically to visit the MOMA. Since we were so close, I thought it would be nice to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park. We are glad we did. What a nice area, and a peaceful area that is ideal to sit and relax.
