Harlem Walks

There are a lot of misconceptions of Harlem to be dangerous but I found it to be nice and a cool neighborhood and a plus: it's close to central park!

Personally, I think Harlem is well worth a visit. I felt quite comfortable during the day there, and even at night, as long as you're not wandering down some back alley alone (which would be dangerous anywhere in the world) you shouldn't have any problems. The Apollo theater is a great attraction and a show like 'Amateur Night' is definitely... More

A visit to New York would hardly be complete without visiting Harlem. It is often said to be very dangerous; but this seems to be more racism than anything else - black New Yorkers have better things to do than to rob white people! Best is to walk there, from the Upper East Side, Central Park or the Upper West... More

We took the subway to Harlem and had dinner at Sylvia's. It was fun to ride the subway and the food was delicious at Sylvia's. I would definitely go back to shop and visit Doug Fresh restaurant and the Apollo

I'm a huge Harlem Renaissance fan, so I couldn't come to NYC and not visit Harlem. If you're like me and like to sit back, take it all in and people-watch, then a trip on the Number 2 or 3 Subway Train Uptown to Harlem is a real treat! Albeit a flying visit, I found Harlem to be a gently... More

I went to Harlem a few years ago. I walked a few blocks on foot, in day time on my own and was safe. It gave a good insight to local New Yorkers. Apollo theatre foyer is like a heritage museum to black artistes who have performed there over the years.

I was very much looking forward to this tour after I have missed it every time I have visited New York. Doris our guide was very knowledgeable friendly. Although due to the size of the groups, you couldn't really hear her at times. May I suggest a microphone headset to be used when talking. This would certainly help. The gospel... More

Visiting the Harlem was the worst experience I ever had when visiting the United States. It’s basically a place where you can see the racial division that still exists in the US, despite the fact that segregation laws have been abolished decades and decades ago. It’s not an attractive area of the city and you can feel that some older... More
