Well worth the effort

The Ferry is free. It provides excellent views of the Statue of Liberty. Just get on and rush off at the far end so you can immediately return to Manhattten.

Great to see the skyline, statue, and bridges at night and it's not overly crowded. The kids loved it and it's free!

Whenever I go to NYC I always try to get on the ferry. It is especially great activity for folks new to the city. You get on in lower Manhattan and can immediately get the next ferry back. It also passes very close to the Statue of Liberty and gives you a wonderful view of the Manhattan skyline.

Take the ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island. It is for free and you get pretty close to the statue of liberty. The ferry departs every half hour and once you are "on the other side" you can directly take it to go back (if you wish). It is nice to drive by the statue even if it is soooooo... More

This is a free trip. Decided to do this as unable to get tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty. We were able to get great shots of the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. One way trip took about 20-30minutes, best to position yourself outside or near an open section of the ferry. You have to get... More

Easiest way to see the statue and its free. Very busy lines but the ferry holds a lot of people so you should get on. You dont get that close but with a good zoom lens on your camera you should get a decent shot. Most people turn straight round and return back to Manhattan but there are a few... More

The view is nice: lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The ride is free. However, it takes two hours! The ride itself is 25 minutes, but you must get off the ferry for the return trip and you will not catch the next ferry for thirty minutes. We saw lots of people rushing to get on the return ferry,... More

If you want to see Lady Liberty from the water for free, this is the way to go. I believe boats leave every 30 minutes.

Excellent choice as the queues for the ferries to the Statue of Liberty were too long. Perfect to see the Statue from the water.
