If you are a tourist downtown, this is a great way to spend some relaxing time. You can sit down and enjoy the great views of Manhattan and sail by (but not stop at) the Statue of Liberty. I understand they are constructing a Ferris Wheel on the Staten Island side. Until that's done, there is no reason to hang... More

I would say only do the Staten Island ferry if - 1) You want to go to Staten Island. 2) Want to see the statue of liberty on a very tight budget. The ferry is full of locals commuting so it is quite cramped and everyone rushes to the dirty window to try take a picture of the Statue of... More

While this is a great, free alternative to taking the tour to Liberty Island, do note that the statue itself is quite far away and will appear quite tiny from the ferry. Aim to go during sunset for amazing sunset views and night skyline views of NYC.

I stayed in staten island in both my visits and had a really good time enjoying the ride two and fro. Has a nice view of the Statue of Liberty and also the city as a whole.

A nice, relaxing way to enter and exit Manhattan and best of all the price is FREE. For $8.00 you can park your car there foir a max of 18 hours and then explore NYC at your own pace.

A relative recommended that we ride the ferry when visiting and we found the experience to be awesome! Great view of Lady Liberty, the city skyline, etc. We just rode to NJ and back.

This is the classic best way to come into the city. If you fly in or take the train, you may forget that the city is surrounded by water. You will recognize the views, many movies have filmed from the decks of this ferry. A little gritty, but a great deal!

We were trying to fit as much of NYC in as we could & took a ride on the ferry so we could see the Statue of Liberty. It was free & made for a good introduction to this part of Manhattan. Not much of a "wow" factor to it, but read up on it to decide if it is... More

I took the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. Great way to do. The views of New York, & the WTC are incredible.
