About ten years ago I was in NYC with friends and we wanted to see the Statue of Liberty, but it was still not open to visitors. A friend, who lived in NYC, said, well, let's take the Staten Island Ferry. Huh? He said, it's public transportation. It barely costs a thing and goes right by the statue. Go across,... More

We took the free ferry over to Staten Island and saw the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the distance, enabling us to take photos rather than an organised tour to the Statue etc. Was about 23 mins ride and you have to get off and back on again for the return trip. Very worth while

I liked it, despite the cold weather. When in Staten Island, it's good to stop at the Riverdock cafe to enjoy the view and have a drink.

When I was in school and broke, we use to get a bottle of wine coolers and take the ferry at night. It's so beautiful watching the skyline light up at night. Spring and Summer months are ideal, of course. You get a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty. And they even sell beer and wine on board! (I'm not... More

OK You don't get in as close to the Statue of Liberty as so called Statue of Liberty tours do, but to be honest having spoken to some fellow holiday makers we met up with, we had just as good a view of Statue and the Manhattan skyline without the queues and additional expense. Really easy. Always load to the... More

It is absolutely necessary to experience NYC from the water at least once. If yo cannot take the sightseeing boat all away around the island- do this. It is so easy to forget Manhattan is an island!

Always worth a trip. Weather affects it but it's always wonderful in all seasons, all temperatures! It's free and if you have the time to walk around Staten Island, that's fun too!

Nice clear day, picked a fairly quiet time and had a really enjoyable round trip. Taking the ferry was quick and easy. It's all about the view and the view was superb. Lots of great photo opportunities.

What a classic trip we had. Caught the sunset sailing over and the dusk one back. Stunning. She's one classy lady. Bit of a pain having to get off and wait 30mins at other side before return sail, but warm and comfy in port.

Hop on at the southern tip of Manhattan. Subway drops you right there. So many varied views so inexpensively. See other ships passing e.g. huge cruise ships.
