Still offering the steam and sweat since 1892, these health spas are alive and well in New York where people get stretched, steamed and pounded as they relax and renew themselves.

I've been going to the Baths for 25 years. On the plus side, you won't find an old-school Russian/Turkish bath like this in New York. It's a great spot to have great Ukranian food, see a cross-section of New York life, decompress and "sweat your prayers," as they say - a real departure from the rush of the city. On... More

Don't ever go there. Whether straight or gay, unless you want to be talked to like a piece of crap. In my 69 countries and 34 states of the USA...is the absolute worst place in the world!!!!

The Bath is old school. a real gem. You will be transported to another time when everyone was an equal. Service is pure NYC but is you are into meeting people from all walks of life, you will meet them here. Egos are left on the side walk before you enter. Steam, dry, wet, cold or hot? They have it... First off, if you are unable to go here with an open mind then stop reading and move on to something else. Note that I came here on a Thursday afternoon when it is "Men Only" When you first walk in you may be a bit shocked by how old this place looks, but don't let that turn you away.... More

I have been in many saunas but this one of the oddest. It's a bit worn down and quite small. Still in New York it's one of it's kind.

A spa it is not, but go with an open mind and with the flow and you will come out totally relaxed. The Russian room is by far the hottest place I have ever been in on this planet and I have been in a lot of hot saunas. Did not do the Platzka beating because it would have taken... More

I've only been there a few times and each time has been different. I went on men-s only days which varied. The last time I was there was the worst. There was a lot of open sexual activity. There were people opening giving HJs and once I noticed an HJ in progress next to me that was about to turn... More

What used to be a no frills relaxing "trip back in time", has turned into a filthy, broken down, poorly run, money grubbing establishment. Probably because the two owners have been feuding for years and no one wants to invest a dime in keeping the place up. it was rated a "B" by the New York Department of Health and... More

I always wanted to come to this place and I finally did it. This place is not a luxurious spa. But it has a fantastic steam and turkish bath rooms. It is very authentic and non pretentious. Staff was very friendly and the massage guy was fenomenal! I would definitely visit this place again. Bring your own towel, shorts and... More

While I was traveling through NY City I was out one day and hit with awful weather - rain, winds, freezing - the lot. The Airbnb I was staying in was just around the corner from this place, so as I walked home to try and defrost I walked past and thought "why not" Having never been to anything like... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
