I've been to NYC several times, and this was the first going to the Apollo... I missed out every other time! It was probably my favorite thing that I have done in NYC. If you are looking for something that's different and very New York,...More

We went to amateur night at the apollo, and we lived it. It's a historical building, easy to reach by metro, and most importamtly we loved the show, there was a nice variety of entertainers and it's interactive and energetic. It's a contest, we went...More

My group and I went to the apollo while on vacation and we were very glad we went! Besides the fact that is was terrifying because we were on the 3rd floor balcony in the first row. But once we got comfortable it was super...More

Only did a drive by but heard about the rich history of the Apollo Theater from the bus driver tour guide. Lots of activity in this bustling area.

This places has so much history, first of all! Second it was so much fun and laughed more than I could have expected. Tickets were at a great price (~30) and alcoholic drinks were under $10. Capone (the host) was hilarious and kept us laughing...More

What a fantastic night of entertainment. The slick professionalism shown,in taking a time honoured tradition, and making fresh and vibrant was amazing. Chat Shepherd hosting was sublime. Witty, slick and entertaining to the max. It is an experience not to be missed

We unfortunately missed the last tour of the day (there are 3). But we were able to have a chat with one of the staff and find out a bit of the history. There is a walk of fame out the front. We saw a...More

I preformed here with some friends in the new York jazz festival. It's a really pretty theatre with lots of history. We sat in the orchestra and the mezzanine but both views were good. I would recommend not coming early to your show because there...More

5 chaperones took 21 high school students to Amateur Night on the last night of our week-long stay in NYC. After students had taken numerous workshops, visited theatre schools and saw Broadway shows and NYC attractions they were pretty exhausted. That all changed at the...More

The Apollo Theater Amateur Night is a great way to see another side of NYC. There are singers, dancers, comedians, rappers. Some are better, some are worse, but it is an extremely fun experience. The community really interacts and takes part of the show. Highly recommend.

As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has
played a vital role in the history of New York City.
Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new
businesses and developments go up next to local
institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is
bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and
historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with
big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Considering amateur night. Is it held in the large iconic theater that used to be on 'showtime at the Apollo?' What is the dress code? Are jeans and a nice top ok? It states on the website there is a $10 food/drink min. What kind of food is available? I ask since we're vegetarian. Also, if we book seats in the upper part of the last rows, is it really too far to enjoy the show? Show starts at 7:30pm...how late does it go? Thanks everyone!

It is held at the iconic theatre. You can wear whatever casual or smart. You can see from the upper part as the stage is really big. It finished at about 11pm as there's an interval.
Is it possible to tour the theatre during the day and at what times.
