About
St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of New York and the seat of its Archbishop. Built by contributions large and small, it remains emblematic of the ascendance of religious freedom in the New World. As such, this international landmark is a beacon of hope for those who share the Catholic faith and a source of inspiration to the more than five million visitors of every religious denomination welcomed here each year. St. Patrick’s Cathedral has stood strong, overlooking 5th Ave, since 1879. The vibrancy of its windows, the beauty of its music and the purpose of its charitable outreach call us to respond to our shared humanity. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is a must see destination when visiting New York. Our tour has been crafted to capture the essence of the church. It addresses the rich history of the past and the incredible art and architecture that makes it one of a kind. Timothy Cardinal Dolan, narrates the tour with Monsignor Robert Ritchie.

Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

- Stephanie S456 contributionsYes, this a real church and that is a real church serviceTo all the tourists huddled in the back of the cathedral taking pictures and gawking at the people in the pews who kept psuedo-whispering to each other "Is this a real church service?" Yes. Yes, it is. So be respectful, don't wander up to the alter in the middle of the service to take a picture, and stop talking so loudly. Instead, tithe $5 into the boxes to thank the parish for allowing you to visit, light a candle for your loved ones, and either sit down and pray or quietly take your leave. All are welcome as long as they do not disrupt.Visited November 2022Written 3 December 2022
- Jacqi D4 contributionsHands-down Highlight of NYC TripDo the VIP Guided Tour!!! It was the highlight of our whirlwind trip to NYC, exceeding expectations. This is a unique, inspiring and humbling experience. There is nothing like a local parish guide (hope you get Randall who I dubbed St. Tour Guide for his patience and grace with other tour group members) AND the opportunity to see (basement) parts off-limits to regular visitors AND hear the fascinating insider stories. We paid $99 each and it all went to support the cathedral. (Sidenote: we have been blessed to be able to give a bit more in offering. Hope church keeps tour price point this accessible. Group pre-registration was limited to just 10. ... That said, I enjoyed this far more than pricier tickets to Christmas Rockettes though Wicked musical was fun. We were blessed and have been changed for the better, by this unexpectedly special tour.)Visited December 2022Written 14 December 2022
- scrunchy17168 contributionsBeautiful cathedralAfter seeing this cathedral from the outside on our first visit to NYC, the tour was high on my list of things I wanted to do. Finally made it there on our third trip to NYC and it was worth the wait. We did the audio tour through the app and I enjoyed both the tour and the expansive beauty of the inside of St Patrick's Cathedral. It was especially nice to visit at Christmastime with the decorations and nativity scene. The architecture is amazing and I would recommend this tour.Visited December 2022Written 18 December 2022
- Andres72423Bridgeport, Connecticut2,897 contributionsThe CathedralWhat an amazing Cathedral. S as you walk in you can help but be in are off this magnificent church. As you walk in they have various statute of saints, a Nativity session among other religious items. As you walk from section to the other you are able to light a candle in honor of whichever Saint you like. I personally light a candle every year for Saint Jude who has been an inspiration to me. They allow you to sit and kneel at the press which I like to do, just to offer a few personal prayers. I definitely would like to come back and attend a Sunday service.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2022

He is brilliant, knowledgeable, funny and can relate to people of all ages. My 15 year old son went reluctantly and loved it, in large part because Randall made it fascinating. I loved everything we saw and learned about the Cathedral.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2023
- HappyFamily43082Westerville, Ohio380 contributionsLook for Groupon DealsI purchased Audio Cathedral Tours for Four through Groupon at a considerable savings. Otherwise, an audio tour purchased at the Cathedral is over-priced. You can walk through the Cathedral for free, but the audio tour does add interesting tidbits. As Protestants, my family learned a lot about Catholic history that was new to us. Sit in a pew when you can to listen to the commentary; your feet will thank you, but be aware of the metal kneelers on the prayer benches.Visited December 2022Written 1 January 2023

We were lucky enough to have a fabulous view of it from our hotel room but it was also lovely to go inside and see how beautiful it is from the inside as well as from the outside.Visited December 2022Written 2 January 2023

Loved being able to step off the sidewalks of the busiest city and find peace in this church.Visited December 2022Written 2 January 2023

Yes, God is with you where ever you are and not contained in a building. However the majesty and artistry of this building is a must see.Visited December 2022Written 3 January 2023
- Conny WylieOttawa, Canada734 contributionsEntering the Gates of Heaven.St. Patrick's Cathedral is a catholic cathedral in the mid-town Manhattan neighborhood of NYC. It is massive as it occupies a city block bounded by Fifth avenue, Madison, 50th and 51st streets and in spite of it's attractive power, it is an active parish. I visited St. Patrick's to appreciate it's Gothic Revival architecture.....impressive. As I entered the cathedral I was enthralled with the stained glass, the opulent alter and 'the way of the cross' statuettes. The environment enticed me to say a Hail Mary and light a candle for my Mother who was a devout catholic.Visited January 2023Written 27 January 2023

Was up early one morning and had seen the cathedral in the guide book and thought that it would be worth an explore. The building was vast and there was a daily service going on every 30 minutes which was interesting to listen to while walking around the outside of the inside of the building. The architecture was spectacular and worth a visit

Gorgeous Cathedral with plenty of alcoves to check out. It was busy but I didn’t feel packed in. Worth checking out even if you aren’t religious. It is free to enter although there are donation boxes if you feel inclined.

It’s big and cavernous. A lot of blind spots to the alter. I see why there are TV screens.
Beautiful details on the columns, the stained glass is gorgeous and the relief depictions are so amazingly detailed.
Lots of smaller alters on each side of the cathedral, since the main alter is blocked off for prayers.

I always have seen this Cathedral in movies!
We was on our way up to Central Park Zoo but we took another route so we would pass the Cathedral on the way by!
It is a stunning building outside! I would of loved to have seen it inside but didn’t have time to get round to it!
Would definitely go inside next time!

They never stopped begging for money. At every alcove. Took the enjoyment off the visit to be constantly harangued to donate.

St Patrick's is a large Cathedral and its Gothic architecture is awe-inspiring, as are most other cathedrals we have seen in Europe. It is a beautiful building and we were fortunate enough to go inside during mass. We only spent a few minutes inside but it was enough to appreciate the enormity and beauty of the place.

After seeing this cathedral so many times on television, it was nice to finally visit in person. The majesty was fascinating and it was nice to see this as a place where many were welcome.

Will there be a line up for the Christmas Eve family mass at 5:30pm on Dec 24 for non parishioners? Do you recommend going earlier about one hour?

You can park on the street. It’s a busy area good luck. Find a parking garage.
Can anyone or any group attend a service at St Patricks? I am organizing a trip for a small catholic school that would like to attend mass during their visit

I'm planning to visit the cathedral while in NYC. I'm interested in buying a guided tour, but I was wondering if it's possible to not buy it online but when I'm at the church. Can I do that? Or necessarily I need to buy it online?

Which Sunday mass is best to go to? Site lists Sunday masses at 7, 8, 9, 10:15, 12, and 9 and 12 say music, 10:15 says choir. Is there no music at 7 and 8? Is the choir best or music best experience?

Not sure about music at the early masses. The choir is amazing and the cathedral offers such a lovely sounding board and resonance that you get chills. You feel surrounded in music. Also applies for just organ music. I think it’s personal preference. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with either. Such a beautiful way to celebrate our Lord!
