    Tourist Locale
I was keen to visit the High Line when I was in New York City as I had been intrigued by it. It's on the site of a former elevated railway line that used to run to Southern Manhattan by the CSX railway company to reach industrial areas. Over the years the industry moved out of the area and the line was eventually no longer used. After having been derelict for a number of years it was handed over to the city and reclaimed as an urban park. It's really cool to see trees growing between rusted tracks. As it has evolved it has become a prime tourist location and a great way to walk from the Meatpacking District to the trendy Hudson Yards Shopping Centre. As you travel along the High Line you get some really nice views of the surrounding area. The only downside (in my view) was that everyone else also wanted to visit at the same time as me so it was quite busy walking along. That said, it was very enjoyable and a wonderful use of a former railway. I did hear rumours that something similar was going to be created in Manchester UK. If so this is a great inspiration.

    We visited twice!
We went one evening and walked the length of the entire line. It is a beautiful space and a great juxtaposition to the city scape. We finished on a Friday around 9:30pm. It closes at 10:pm. There were very few people. It was getting darker and harder to see all of the plants. We found ourselves back in the area after a boat tour and went back on Sunday around 7:30pm to walk part of it again around the Chelsea Market. It was very crowded and not as enjoyable. Still worth the trip as it is very unique and nice to see the revitalization of an old rail yard. There are posters showing the timeline and how people raised money to save this area from demolition and preserve the history of the rail line that use to service the meat packing area.

Elevated Park on old RR Line
This is one of the best places in Manhattan, and it is really something new. It is a reclaimed elevated train line that had been abandoned for decoades, and then converted into a linear park. Fun to walk and see the changing neighborhoods and fancy new buildings, plus some old ones. Some good landscaping along the way. You can step off and explore some great neighborhoods down on the street level.

Sorry but I don't understand the hype of The High Line. If you are resident of the neighborhood, it is a wonderful transformation of a former elevated rail line into a nice urban greenspace. However, it seems to have become one of the most popular things to do for visitors to the city. As a result, it is now packed with tourists and the views are simply not that interesting. There are so many better walking options in the city.

A friend recommended this after we had lunch at Chelsea Market and I am so glad we did. I love that the City took an old railroad line and converted it into a walking space. We took the elevator up by Little Island and Chelsea Market and walked all the way to The Vessel. Great scenery, great walk!

What a find was this, a short 2 mls trip on an abandoned rail track, straight through
Meat packing district and Chelsea old industrial area.
you can get off at various spots, get early though as it can get busy.
dont forget to visit Greenwich village and Chelsea market either.

This is a pretty walk if you have time, but I wouldn't say it's a must-do if you only have a short amount of time in NYC. Take the stairs or the elevator up to reach the start of the walk. It's not very long, maybe 15min? Ends above Louis Vuitton. There's a nice viewpoint of the city street with some benches along the way.

Great day outside. If it’s your first time visiting, enjoy the walk, nature, and people. Take time to sit and people watch or just relax. It meets up with Chelsea Market and ends at Hudson Yards. I did coffee and shopping at Chelsea Market and ended with Lunch at the Mercado of Little Spain for lunch. Great for an afternoon or a few hours int he morning! Felt great being back in NYC again!

It was so nice to come here and get out of the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. We are still in New York city, however, there seems to be so much more open space and less crazy energy. We loved walking this line. I think it would be much more interesting perhaps in the summer but then I'm not sure I would have wanted to walk the whole thing in such humidity. It is so cool to see all the the houses and apartments and old buildings and churches along the way from a different point of view. You can see the layers of architecture from old to new. Loved it.

I really don't "get" this park. It is abandoned rail lines with a plastic boardwalk laid over it. The "foilage" is grasses and the view is of the Hudson which is always beautiful but there are many better places to go to see it.

The High Line Park is another one of those great things to do in Mew York. Also don’t miss the separate “Little Island” separately reviewed which is near the southern end of the park.
