We went with our family for the first time and didn't really know what to expect. What we found was a very affordable outing which was really fun and interesting for 1-2 hours. The 2 main exhibits deal with the history of NYC and ideas for sustainable development in the next decades. Both were really well done and interactive. Even... More

I'm surprised this is not as well publicised as the other museums. We visited later in our 9 day visit and after visiting the Guggenheim on the same day. So fair to say we were a bit tired by the time we visited. I'd absolutely go again if I found myself back in New York. It does a fabulous history... More

I wanted to go here for a long time expecting something rather different, I was surprised to see a lot of the rooms was just pictures and stuff to read, I was hoping for a more interactive experience not just 3 floors of pictures and lots and lots of reading, not good for children,

Visited here yesterday with a couple of friends deciding to go at the spur of the moment. Immediately greeted by a staff member...she was so friendly and helpful as is everyone who works there. The suggested donation is $18 but you can give more of less. A staff member suggested we first view the Timescapes short film narrated by Stanley... More

This is a magnificent museum in a great setting. Very manageable, not overwhelming, easy to maneuver. Start on floor one and work your way up. The artifacts, chronology and stories that guide you through the history of NYC are terrific. They do a terrific job of connecting the history to the items that tell the story. The gallery that traces... More

I learned a great deal from each of the special exhibitions I visited: Port City, the Gilded Age, Gay Life in the 1960s, and the history of Zoning in the city; the latter sounds ho hum but the visuals made it fascinating for me. MCNY is one of 4 small museums uptown that one can do in a single day,... More

This museum gives the history of NYC and it's people from the very beginning up to present day. Great activity for a cold december day. Not too crowded and right opposite one of the 'Big Bus Tour' stops. Well worth a visit.

From the underground cultural revolution in New York to Civil rights movements and gilded culture, the exhibits capture my attention at every corner. I learned so much from the iconic artists highlighted at the exhibit. There was art at everywhere except for the bathrooms.

In many visits to NYC, we had never visited this museum. So glad that we did on this trip. A wonderful place to learn about the history of the city, as well as contemporary challenges and issues in NYC. The exhibits are wonderfully done, with excellent use of technology, and the building is lovely. We spent 5+ hours and didn't... More

Museums are more my wife's thing than mine, but I will say on this cold rainy day, this was really a good choice. There is history about the people, the land, and the financial wealth and poverty since the city was first formed. We spent about 4-5 hours touring the 3 floors of this museum which is on 5th Ave....
