Neighbourhood: Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighbourhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.

authentic goods from many African countries. the sellers were not pushy (as I have experienced in similar markets around the world) and the goods were lovely. lots of colorful clothing, earrings, bags. prices seemed reasonable and we bargained. friend bought a basket purse that originally was quoted for $25 (ridiculous) but she paid $15 (reasonable). I bought some shea butter from Ghana for $3. we enjoyed walking through very much. I would not go out of my way to get here but if you are in the area it's a gem!

Despite the rain we were greeted warmly and made some great purchases. We will be returning in warmer weather.

I enjoyed my trip to this market. All the vendors were immigrants from various African countries. Most items are hand made and very original. I bought a beautiful skirt with matching head wrap by a Ghanaian woman. Very reasonable price. I will definitely return on my next trip to New York City.

This is a small outdoor market (it might take you ten minutes to walk through it) full of African clothes, jewelry and other items. A very interesting place and not too expensive.

Off the beaten path on 116th Street, this is an open air market that offers lots of African clothing, cloth, decor, souvenirs of NYC. If you’re in this area, try not to miss it.

I was dropped off on the hop on/hop off tour and remained there for most of the afternoon. Jewelry is super inexpensive and tons to choose from. Clothing is beautiful and I loved that you can haggle a bit on the pricing. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to New York.

This is a small African market with a variety of items. There are restrooms here that are ok but not sparkling clean. The items here are of fair to good quality. If in the area worth a stop but would not make a special trip here.

Visited recently. Although the clothing was not my speed, there were interesting arts and crafts for sale.
The vendors were very pleasant as well

You could skip this, prefer doing my shopping at Chinatown instead. But if you around the area, do come and drop by. Maybe you find something you need.
