Present day history in the making
Given the UN building is just a number of meeting rooms, the tour describing the activities taking place made the rooms come to life. The guide listened carefully to all questions in order to appropriately answer; he did not assume that what was articulated was the actual point. Very professional. There is also a sculpture garden that is viewed without the guide. Tour reservations were required - hopefully this necessity will be lifted as Covid concerns ease. Definitely allot an arrival 30-45 minutes in advance of the tour booked. Although the tour is not aimed at children, precocious children would realize its importance.

Must-see if you like history or world affairs
The tour of the UN is very well done. Gives you the history of the institution, but also connects you to what is happening today. Tour guides know their stuff! Not just the tour script, but up to date on current UN initiatives.

    Definitely worth a tour
We decided to do this tour last minute while in NYC. I would say if you have any interest in the UN that it is a must do. You book tickets online. You have to get there much earlier than tour start time as you have to register across the street with government issued ID. Our tour guide - Hashim - was pleasant and very informative. Interesting to hear more about the UN, it’s activities, and see where all the action happens. Consider this a stop on your NYC itinerary.

    A moving and in-depth tour
Fascinating tour that brought to life the mission and work of the UN. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the grounds were beautiful. I was humbled by the experience. Truthfully, I never imagined that I be able to have access to such an amazing institution.

One of the best tours I've taken
They give great guided tours that last about an hour but you see a lot. Very interesting history and great tour guides. We were even able to see a meeting in session. Amazing building.

Put this on your NYC itinerary!
Visiting the UN was an incredible experience, especially if you have an interest in government organizations/NGOs/politics. I am so glad that I added this to my itinerary. I’d recommend booking your tickets in advance, which I’m so glad I did because I saw people who hadn’t and tried to get a walk-in tour, and the entire day was booked. It’s helpful to know that you need to check it at visitor’s centre across the street from the entrance. The suggestion of arriving an hour in advance was likely a bit much for winter, however I arrived 40 minutes ahead of time and it gave me adequate time to check in, explore the entrance, and get ready for the tour. There is a lovely space to take photos right when you pass through security, which I definitely recommend you do! The quality of your tour will depend on your guide. I had a very knowledgeable guide however she limited the photos that we could take and kept us moving quite quickly. There was another tour both ahead of us and behind us and those participants were able to take many photos. It is a working institution so there might be some spaces you won’t be able to see, but you do still get to learn about the history. There is a bookstore and a gift shop that are nice, but I didn’t feel the need to purchase anything. It can get a bit expensive. After the tour is done you are able to visit open exhibitions, which during the time I was there was about antisemitism, fake news, and the sustainable development goals. I think you can actually visit those areas for free, and you can totally spend an hour or so just exploring that. Overall I’m very happy I took the time to visit!

    Most Amazing Tour!
We had the most amazing tour at the UN. Special praise for Mrs. Silmara! She was wonderful! Showed great knowledge of the UN and allowed us to fully comprehend how the entity works. She’s got an amazing good energy that was contagious on the entire group! Keep up with the great work!

    good Tour
Very interesting tour and well worth the time. Book your tickets online and be sure to arrive early as stated. There was a long line waiting to get in and we got in line not realizing you first had to check in at the visitor center across the street and have your photo taken and show an ID. Then wait in line for the entrance. Then go through security. Then find the place tours start and check in there. We were there on a Friday in March and it was busy. Took whole 45 minutes to get to start of tour. Tour was good. A very upbeat story of what they do.

    A Great Tour
We visited the UN and took the one hour tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we were able to visit almost all of the headquarters. (The security council was in session so we were only allowed to watch a video outside the meeting room.) The tour was very comprehensive and the guide was able to answer all of the group's questions. A very impressive visit!

    Good tour!
I have lived in NY for any years and never went here. Found it interesting! And my 16 year old enjoyed it (as much as any 16 year old boy can enjoy anything “educational” 😃). I recommend it for adults and older teens.

I visited the UN with students from a school in the UK. The process was pretty straightforward for getting in but with large groups, leave some time spare as the security is obviously very tight and takes a while to get your group through. Once inside, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to tailor the information to the age of the students. I would highly recommend visiting the UN to other school parties as there are so many links to multiple curricula.

Really interesting tour definitely worth doing if you have a few days in New York. The tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and took questions throughout the tour. We got to see the security council chamber and were able to walk through the general assembly whilst in session. So glad we did this tour.

A very disappointing visit
The tour was very fast-paced, and there was no time to ask questions or look at the different works.
Very disappointed by this visit

It was terrific to see the UN building and learn about the various chambers and business undertaken therein. The membership of the UN and the rules about votes and applications to join were also informative! The artwork and gifts in display were impressive and the tour guide was excellent! I really enjoyed it all!

Loved this tour! It was nice to see how this important global entity operates. There are many nice exhibits and pieces of artwork donated by member nations.

Informative tour with a bright and inspiring tour guide. We saw the rooms where peace and development goals are ongoing endeavors. The art alone is worth the time spent.

Did the tour. Arrived 30 mins before and did the security Checkin across the street first. Underwhelmed. The building seems a little run down, and a lot of the tour was blatant UN- propaganda “look how great we are” “look how much the world spend on weapons” etc.
Security was a little too strict, and the security guards themselves all seemed a bit rude, from check-in itself.
