I had a free morning in New York before catching a flight in the evening ....while strolling around I stumbled on this Museum & library .... If you are into finance and familiar with the legendary J.P.Morgan you should be intrigued and tempted to visit. It is a peaceful oasis in busy / modern / noisy Manhattan ..... With interesting... This was the highlight of our trip. It is a small, almost intimate museum- esp when compared to MOMA or Nat History Museum. But don't let its size fool you. It is packed with artifacts including a Guttenberg bible, original letters from Lincoln, ect. There was also a special exhibit on Emily Dickinson. We took the free Highlights of the... More

This museum is a must for people into the history of world and American Literature. I traveled from Virginia to New York to see a special exhibit of rare original manuscripts, photos, and drawings related to America's most original poet, Emily Dickinson. There were also recordings of women reciting some of her most noted poems. A guided tour of the... More

Very interesting to see how this very rich banker (Pierpont Morgan) was working between books and objects of fine art. The collection of seals of Mesopotamia is fascinating.

J.P. Morgan's library is one of the most splendid interiors in all of New York. You cannot help but be impressed by the beauty and magnificence of this "robber baron" mansion! Oh what money could buy! The library has a rotating display of their many manuscripts and documents representing history's greatest musicians, writers and political figures. Due to their fragile... Just a few blocks from Grand Central Terminal, this old luxury building houses one impresive library, various precious masters paintings and arqueological treasures of inmesurable value. We were specially impressed with: 1. Madonna of the Magnificat, of Botticelli 2. Writings from Gustav Mahler, Frederic Chopin and Johannes Brahms 3. 3 copies of the Gutenberg Bible 4. An asirian tablet of... More

On the last day of our holiday in NYC we visited this museum, recommended to us by a New Yorker. It is a great place, with a beautifully bright new part, and an astonishing older part (the study and library of Mr Morgan). The most beautiful library you may ever see. The information supplied on the (free) headphones was very... More

It was a great visit, 5 stars for the collection and spaces, sub zero stars for the grumpy staff. It started wrong when we asked for earphones and we're DIRECTED across the way to another desk. But, there was no one there. We stood around for awhile and no one came, so we were headphoneless. Every guard was grumpy and... More

We went to see the Bonhoeffer exhibit. The display was well laid out and labeled. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The Morgan gives an excellent glimpse of what was once the golden era of life in this NYC neighborhood. A visit to this quiet provides a nice break from the crowds elsewhere.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
