The final resting place of President Ulysses Simpson Grant and his wife, Julia, is the largest mausoleum in North America. It testifies to a people's gratitude for the man who ended the bloodiest conflict in American history as Commanding General of the Union Army and then, as President of the United States, strove to heal a nation after a civil war and make rights for all citizens a reality.

It was our second stop during our Contrasts NYC all-day activity. The Tomb of General Grant is big and as it’s for free, I strongly recommend to give this a try. It takes only 15 mins and it’s beautiful!.

Recently read the newest biography about this very interesting man. Visited the burial site and was moved by the simple, yet elegant, presentation. If you know anything about our 18th President, be certain to visit this historic landmark.

After a pleasant walk around the Upper West Side I stopped by this gem, which is just across the road from the Riverside Church. A beautiful monument, with a peaceful atmosphere and free admission. The visitor centre nearby has toilets and a small gift shop....More

This is the largest mausoleum in the Unites States. The structure is very majestic and imposing. A great tribute to General Grant. The small museum on the lower level of the park also offers a very nice presentation about the life of this national hero....More

General Grant was a great man, and this shrine pays homage to that. The visitor center is worth a look after you visit the mausoleum, and is located directly across the street along the river.

Once you get here, you would never think you were still in NYC. The Tomb area itself, is huge and the Park Ranger gave us a small tour and told us things that I never realized about Grant. We also went to the Visitor's Center...More
