The Morris-Jumel Mansion in New York is like a time machine that takes you back to the 18th century. It's this old, elegant house where George Washington once hung out during the Revolutionary War. You get to stroll through these fancy rooms with creaky wooden floors and imagine what life was like back when wigs were cool. The garden outside is a peaceful escape from the city buzz. If you're into history or just want a break from modern chaos, it's a cool spot to check out.

We learned of the Morris Jumel mansion from the Holzer Files on tv. We love a good ghost story and this house delivers! My husband and I were visiting NYC and decided to check out the tour. We spent about 30 minutes doing the tour of the grounds of the outside of the mansion and learning more about the history and then we moved inside for a self guided tour where you could spend as much time as you would like. We ended up spending at least an hour inside checking out the different rooms that we heard were haunted from the show. And Eliza‘s room we definitely felt a heaviness. It was so much fun I wish we could’ve been in town for the for the paranormal investigation, they were doing the following weekend. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in history or in true haunted houses.

I had not been in the Morris Jumel Mansion since pre-COVID and they had done a lot with the interior and with the interpretive story. The self guided tour is interesting when you think of the people who have stayed here including George and Martha Washington and Aaron Burr. The house even has some of the original furniture from the Jumel family. The walls are covered with a reproduction of the original wallpaper and all the rooms have descriptions of the use of each room. The gardens are nice but over grown and could use someTLC. They really do need a good weeding and planting. Still the mansion is very interesting to visit.

I love this little gem in the city. The history of this place is really something, with many notable people playing a role. Eliza Jumel was an amazing woman. We did not pay for a tour and were just going to walk around, but the cashier [for lack of a better word] offered to tell us a bit about the home and we said yes please. She did a phenomenal job and really drew us in. The exterior could use some help - apparently that is the job of the City. The interior is fabulously maintained by a historic non-profit of some kind. Hopefully the City steps up their game to ensure that this home will last through the ages.
