Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

Hustle and bustle for sure but the building itself is stunning. Lots of places to eat inside from carts to fine dining. People rushing to and from to get to their trains taking them out of the city. The ceiling inside is amazing and really something to stop and take in. We were not the only people walking around to... More

We had lunch on the upper level of Grand Central's main terminal at Cipriani Italian restaurant. It was magical viewing the the architecture and watching thousands of commuters on the level below while enjoying outstanding, fresh cuisine. One of my favorite lunch spots!

Another must do for a first time visitor to NYC and what a revelation. I went back three times just to make sure I saw as much of it as possible. I walked in from street level and saw the dining concourse first and was astounded by its size. I loved the way the platforms could be accessed by the... More

Such a beautiful place to visit, the main concourse has the huge Ceiling and the Iconic Clock over the Central Ticket & Information Booth that are so well known from many movies. This is one the major tourist attractions in The City. There are many shops and places to grab a Bagel & coffee before the train. Even if you... More

This is worth a visit to see how previous generations traveled. Even now, it is a beautiful and functional building.

We passed through here on our way to a nearby restaurant. The place is very ornate and does not feel like a railway station. It has been wonderfully restored and is well worth a visit.

It was so beautiful I actually didn't realize that it was a subway station until being inside for 10 minutes. Lots of shops, restaurants and art work.

The station is a beautiful and wonderful design! You can take a guided tour also. One never thinks to go here just to see the station and hear its story! If you are in the area worth a stop!

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
