Description:

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

The place which should not be missed

Every time I come to NY I go there, the ceiling in the central part of the station is just majestic. And visit the market.

I stopped on a subway stop to look and grab something to eat. Extremely busy with everyone moving different places at once. Lots of homeless people around, which is unsettling for a Ky girl like me! Got some good food to eat and looked some at the main area with its beautiful ceiling.

We just popped in to check it out. It is an impressive building, but you won't really hang out long. I suggest a quick visit and then head to the New York library, which is near by.

My sister's first visit to New York, and she's got a cold. Grand Central is so close to our hotel (Hampton Inn Manhattan Grand Central) we could easily walk. Talk about Grand! I was in awe of the energy and aspect of the building. I wished I were getting on a train! We walked from one end to the other... More

We loved this train Terminal. It was truly very beautiful inside - and busy. As much as you want to stand around looking at everything you need to be careful of people walking past with the goal of trying to get somewhere. However, make the time, find a place to look and just enjoy the architecture. The highlight was seeing... More

I fell in love with this station ever since I saw it, looming in the middle of the street, since it sits on an intersection that interrupts the city grid. I had to visit, and as soon as I stepped in I was in love. The central courtyard was beautiful, with an incredible ceiling. Lots of people running around in... More

This is a historic train station. Getting in & out of the city is easy from here. Its a beautiful station with large marble balustrades, and a lively constellation on the ceiling. Theres a food court, bars, and restaurants.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
