Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

One of my must see places on our visit last week, stunning building but extremely busy as you would expect, sadly didn't visit the Oyster place as we were in a bit of a rush, this place is a must to see.

As you have seen on many movies over the years, the central hall is pretty stunning. But that's based on the fact that most things are really modern in NY. Seen it, done it, but would not return

Absolutely breathtaking place, this goes to the "must see in NY"-sightseeing. Also nice restaurants in the lower floor.

Stunning architecture. Love the variety of food shops but was quite distressing to see the number of homeless people about.

Located in the middle of Mahattan, This big and old beautiful building provides cheap transportation you to different parts in Manhattan and New York as well as good stores, food court, clean bathrooms and a market with fresh meats and fruits. You can also see a big painting of the constellation in the ceiling.

Never thought I would be recommending a Railway Station on Tripadvisor!! This is a fantastic building that is worth visiting just for the architecture, but it also has some particularly good food stores. My recommendation would be to try the Cheescake!!

This is a great historic spot and a wonderful restoration. Obviously very busy, the energy of the place is just great. Make sure to stop and admire the ceiling and the central information booth with its clock. Great oyster bar along one of its sides. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

Visited again recently around Thanksgiving but back in January we took a audio tour and learned so much about the history and the building. Did you know that part of the outside is made with Indiana Limestone? What about the talking wall? That it is a terminal and not a station? There is a really cool Apple store inside besides... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
