- aldabra007Trieste, Italy2,501 contributionsThe rubber of the bridgeOne of the symbols of New York that must absolutely be seen and savored. If you stay in Manhattan I recommend taking the subway to Brooklyn and walking to it in 10 minutes. unlike years ago, the upper part can only be explored on foot and no longer with bicycles. Only by walking along it can you notice its size and its particularity and even if in winter the walk can be prevented by the cold climate, the visit must be done equally, even for those who suffer from vertigo there are no problems since the distance between the edges is always large. Going at sunset you can admire the illuminated skyscrapers of Manhattan while during the day you can see the amount of traffic that passes through it. You can't leave New York without having gone through it. Architecturally it is one of a kindVisited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 January 2024

We lucked out with fantastic weather, which set the perfect backdrop for some pictures. The highlight? Long strolls along the majestic Brooklyn Bridge, taking in breathtaking views of the cityscape and the East River. - Livsnyderen2014Frederiksvaerk, Denmark640 contributionsImpressive engineeringAlthough the bridge is nearly 150 years old, it is an impressive feat of engineering, and still a stunning piece of architecture. Standing at the bottom by the bridge's pylons, one looks 83 m up towards the top of the meter-thick towers. You get the best experience of the trip if you start from the Brooklyn side, because then you get the great view towards Manhattan's classic skyline. At times the space on the bridge can feel a bit cramped, as the bridge is a "Must see" and one of the Top 10 in New York. You can both cycle and walk on the bridge, and more than 4,000 pedestrians and 2,600 cyclists cross the bridge every day. When the bridge was commissioned, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world and the first of its kind to use steel cables.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 March 2024
- Tatiana NRio de Janeiro, RJ60 contributionsIt's worth walking across the bridgeIt's worth visiting and crossing the bridge if you have time on your trip and want to get to know Brooklyn. There are benches along the bridge to rest if necessary. And you can always find a good angle to take beautiful photos. The view of the city is stunning and from there you can see the Statue of Liberty in the background. For those who decided to cross, take the opportunity and visit Dumbo (where you can take a photo with the Manhattan Bridge in the background) and further ahead there is a viewpoint that has a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The market (time out) is very close and worth a visit.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 March 2024

Taking the typical photo from this iconic place is something magical!! It is a feeling of remembering the multiple films that have been filmed in that place.
I recommend arriving at nightfall to have the view of the sunset and if you want to buy souvenirs, how about buying them before climbing the bridge...they usually cost less than in other places.

Crossing this bridge is a real experience because you can admire its majesty up close in every detail and obviously you can enjoy magnificent views of the city. The foresight of having designed this splendid elevated pedestrian walkway is commendable, making crossing it truly unforgettable. The descent to Brooklyn and the visit to the Dumbo neighborhood are a must. If you want to go shopping with some cheap souvenirs along the way you can get some good deals (obviously without a receipt) because it is full of street vendors.

I was aware of the Brooklyn Bridge before my visit to New York but I did not realise what a tourist hot spot it is.
You can drive across the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn into the Financial District and vice versa however for the best experience I would recommend going on foot and visiting towards the end of the day.
The pedestrian part of the bridge is a hub of tourists and vendors. You can get cheap key rings and fridge magnets for the folks back home. There are also various people with stands encouraging you to use them to get a video clip of yourself in this great location.
I would suggest you make your way past these people and get onto the bridge properly. From here you will get some great views of Manhattan with the Statue of Liberty in the background.
I was there as the sun started to go down and I was able to get some really good pictures on my phone which I was very pleased with.
I love the layout of the supporting wires and they way they criss cross over the bridge. it makes for some really interesting pictures.
Like I say, get past all the vendors and you can admire the splendour.

A lot of people go there! If you want to take nice photos you have to arrive at 6-7 AM so that the sun does not affect the photos as much. I recommend going without a vehicle since you will have to pay for parking in Dumbo, the area I went to costs 1h = 2.50 / 2h = 7.25.

The magic of the past years is gone, when vendors offered their caps and souvenirs every 50 meters and the song "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z blared from many loudspeakers. The city only wanted to allow this with licenses, and that was probably too expensive for the street vendors.
Nevertheless, the walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge is still an experience. Take the subway to the High Street station. Then just follow the other visitors. You walk across the East River. As time goes on, the skyscrapers of Manhattan come closer and closer. All visitors are in a good mood or even excited, many take photos. The visit is free (except for the subway ticket) and a big point of every visit to New York.

Brooklyn Bridge is not only one of New York’s most recognizable landmarks; it is an amazing engineering achievement and a symbol of the connection between Manhattan and Brooklyn. With its majestic Gothic architecture and dramatic silhouette stretching across the East River, the bridge is an experience that every visitor to New York should enjoy.
An unforgettable walk
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most memorable experiences you can have in New York. The 1,834-foot bridge offers a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and the surrounding areas. The walk over the bridge takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on how often you stop to take pictures and admire the views.
As you walk across the bridge, you will be met by the characteristic wooden planks and the large towers that rise from both ends. There is also a bike path, so be aware of cyclists passing by. Despite the crowds, there is a sense of unity that arises when people from all corners of the world cross this historic structure together.
Historisk Betydning
Built between 1869 and 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was a pioneering achievement of its time, and it was the first hinge bridge in the world made of steel. It represents both engineering and a vision of connecting societies. The bridge has witnessed countless historical events and has inspired artists, writers and filmmakers for generations.
For those interested in history, there are information posters along the bridge that explain its construction and significance. You may also want to visit Brooklyn Bridge Park on the Brooklyn side after crossing the bridge, where you can find more information and interesting exhibitions about the history of the bridge.
Brooklyn Side: A worth exploring
Once you reach the Brooklyn side, it’s worth taking a break and exploring Brooklyn Bridge Park. The park offers stunning views back towards Manhattan and has a variety of green areas, playgrounds, and even a beach. There are also many great restaurants and cafes nearby where you can enjoy a snack or a drink overlooking the harbour.
Conclusion
The Brooklyn Bridge is more than just a bridge; it is a symbol of New York’s spirit and history. Whether you're a first time visitor or a local, a walk across Brooklyn Bridge is an unforgettable experience. The stunning views, the historic significance and the unique atmosphere make this a must for anyone who wants to experience the best of New York. Take the time to enjoy the trip across the bridge, and be sure to bring the camera to capture the incredible sights!

First we got the ferry from Pier 11 (Wall Street) to Dumbo. You need to buy tickets as ferries do not accept contactless payment. Once in Dumbo its about a 20 minute walk up to the bridge. We happened to pass the iconic Manhattan Bridge view street on the way.
Dumbo was very quiet on a Sunday morning but as expected the bridge was busy. Vendors are not currently allowed on the bridge so no one bothered us as we walked. Its 2km (1.3 miles) to walk across the bridge and you get a great view of the Manhattan skyline. There are also interesting information panels about the bridge construction.

Seems every time we visit NYC it rains or snow or a combination of both, but the weather was not going to deter us from walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, a true iconic fixture here in New York City. The nice thing about the rain is it kept the crowds away and we didn't have shoulder to shoulder crowds to contend with. It is such a joy to walk across this bridge and the views to the city are amazing. And this is one of those things you can do for FREE!!!! and you get some exercise!!!

The Brooklyn Bridge is definitely one to see if you visit New York. The bridge is an architectural wonder and provides a great view of the city and the East river. It was quite crowded when I went but I didn't mind. If you would prefer to be there with less people, you might want to go early.
You'll also get great photos on the bridge. Note that there are photographers proposing to take photos, the photos come out great but you might want to negotiate the initial price they tell you.
I'm glad I got to see the bridge.

Must cross the bridge at least once. It's only a little over a mile (1.1 miles or 1.8 kms). TIPS
1. Start in Brooklyn with thinner crowds--fewer tourists and vendors compared to the Manhattan side especially during the summer. Nearest subway station is High St. A or C train. Enjoy the view as you walk facing the Manhattan skyline. If you're tired when you get to the city, the 4/5/6 Brooklyn Bridge City Hall station is right at the foot of the bridge.
2. Best time to go is the morning as early as you can and before the temperature hits 90degrees in the summer. Sunrise on a clear day is gorgeous and relaxing. No crowds, only a few adorable couples taking photos and rarely that social media influencer with their photo/videographers and props that block the public path.
3. Sunset is also a good time but avoid holidays and summer weekends if you can. Spectacular views of the city skyline.
4. Narrow pedestrian path now safer with the bicycle lane moved to the lower level.
