Side trip on Santa Fe Trail

Very nice visitors center that shows a film about a volcano that just appeared in a farmers field. Very nice views from the top of the volcano. Nice walk around the top.

This is a must see if you are in north-east New Mexico! The views as you ascend the volcano rim are spectacular. Make sure you are prepared to hike because it is quite a vertical challenge, especially if you are older or have physical problems. The trail is paved so that makes it better but some inclines are about 60... More

We stopped on our way back to Texas from Colorado. It is in the middle of nowhere and is a great place to stop and stretch your legs. There is a visitor's center at the bottom, however, it is being renovated currently, so there is only a small temporary building to go in and pay and port-a-pottys (but they are... More

A really cool national park. You see it on the horizon fro a while away, but when you get there you realize how high it really is. There is a visitor center at the base but take the few minute drive up to the top to see the view and the the crater. A great place to explore.

We were driving on the highway and saw what we thought was a volcano from the road. We pulled off the highway and lo and behold it actually was a volcano. Unfortunately we didn't make it while the park was open but the view from outside the park was spectacular. This is a place I am dying to go to... More

Beautiful views from every vantage point. It's just $7 to drive up to the top and enjoy the hiking trails. The visitors center, gift shop and small museum-ish area is clean and so very informative - adults and kids thoroughly enjoyed. As you hike the well cared for, paved pathways to the bottom of the volcano and up and around... More

We drove over in the afternoon from Raton. On the way we enjoyed beautiful views of a huge ranch, herds of antelope, old buildings and the distant peaks. The Visitors Center was our first stop. The lady there was very nice and helped me to plan our visit. She said from the top we could see five states, NM, CO,... More

A must see if you want to walk into and on top of a "classic" volcano. Fascinating place and fabulous views w/ good info boards. Nice visitor center. Worth the side trip!
