Great heritage museum

Great museum telling the stories of the down east North Carolina waterman and waterfowl hunters. Lots of decoys. Self guided. Great view of Cape Lookout from top of the museum.

This place has a lot of local history, but alot of the items can be seen anywhere. However the duck decoys were great art work and the view from the third floor of cape lookout was amazing

Interesting museum showcasing the Down East community and how the people made their living on the water fishing and building boats. The duck decoys were amazing. The museum had some very good displays and history about the families that lived on the islands and areas that make up Down East.

Nestled back from the road, this extraordinary museum is a great visit. This was our second visit, and with the changing exhibits and informative continuous run videos, there was more to learn about the area. Their new addition offers more space which I'm sure they will put to good use.

If you are near Emerald Isle, Beaufort, Morehead City make the drive to Harker's Island to visit this museum. While it isn't a large museum it is full of interesting exhibits which tell the rich history of the area. The staff is friendly and informative. While there is no entrance fee a donation is appreciated. The island is beautiful with... More

We have been here before but enjoyed it again. The amazing decoy art is displayed throughout the museum. Many hours have been spent by many people from various local towns and counties arranging displays representing their history. The history of Harkers Island fishing is also documented with many model crafts on display. Photographs add a personal touch. The view from... More

I enjoy visiting this museum as much as possible because of all the interesting stories and also, the communities have all donated items that relate to their individual community. I have seen things that my grandmother used as well as my mama. The gift shop is great. They always feature hand made items.
