The canyon views are beautiful and interesting. The canyon has a lot of variety to it--you really see different things from different overlooks.

Stop by the Visitor's Center, talk to the Rangers and get a map. If you are limited with time, I recommend that you take the South Rim Drive (36 miles round-trip and seven overlooks). Magnificent views of the Canyon.

Take a little drive to view this beautiful canyon. It's not as large as the Grand Canyon, or others you may have seen, but it is beautiful! Worth the drive!

This drive was very nice -- but don't miss a guided tour in addition! We drove in late afternoon, but too early for Sunset -- would try to do it and catch sunset, if possible!

Once you've been IN the Canyon De Chelly, take the South Rim self drive for amazing views of what you've seen @ ground level. Self drive takes a little over an hour if you make all the stops, which includes the awesome Spider Rock. Free,fun...More

We drove part of the South Rim so as to return in time for our jeep tour. The overlooks are very accessible (except for White House ruins) and the road signs are well marked.

This drive has a number of great views of Canyon de Chelly, and of course, Spyder Rock is a highlight.

It is now $ 30.00 for a pass to the park. It is good for seven days. Very windy but the canyon is always breath taking and beautiful. There have been some recent accidents so please use due diligence and common sense.

Worth the off the beaten path drive, easy to access, beautiful scenery and helpful natives. Affordable motel access inside the park at Thunderbird Lodge.

There are more overlooks on the south rim drive, compared with the north rim. It is a 37 mile round trip to the end of the paved road and then returning. We spent most of the day just doing this drive and stopped at every...More

Ok, Planning to possibly arrive at Canyon de Chelly in the late morning /midday- June 2 , and would like an idea of how long it would be to drive and stop along the South Rim, especially Spider Rock viewpoint and then hike down to the White House Ruins trail later in the afternoon. (suggested). When would it be good to hike down to the ruins and back? Where would it be best to view sunset? We would be staying at Thunderbird lodge and I heard it is best to leave things there vs in the car. I hope we can do so before check in. Would we be missing a lot to skip a jeep tour which I think may not be feasible given our timing? Thanks.

I can only answer part of this but hope it helps! We did the whole South Rim in a morning, spending 30-ish minutes at most of the stops...longer at Spider Rock and White House Overlook (amazing!). We didn't do any of the... More

We did South Rim just before sunset, was wonderful. So I expect North Rim would be good in the am? And yes the canyon is worth the time and bucks. We did the 5 hour trip with Colleen Hunter, Bobby Vanwinkle's niece. She was... More
