We attended the showing of a silent movie tonight at the Balboa. It is not the most ornate movie palace we have seen, but it is very nice and what is visible to the patron is well kept in pristine condition. They have aa wonderful Robert Morton theater pipe organ and it is in beautiful shape. Great experience.

We attended a Joe Bonamassa concert here. Only upper balcony seating was available when we purchased our tickets well in advance. We are two average size adults, 5'10ish. We were not able to sit down without our knees crushing into the seats in front of us!!!! We spent two hours with our knees twisted to the side, into the person next to us trying to do the same thing!!! For two days after the concert our legs and knees were suffering. My husband measured the space between our seat and the seat back in front of us....8"! Although the acoustics were excellent we should have brought our binoculars with us to see the incredible hand work of the guitarist.
It appeared the seating on the floor level was better....but we will NEVER spend a cent on those balcony seats again. (Unless the Beatles reincarnate!) and then we stand in the aisle, as many were doing!

The staff didn't allow a group of minority allowed in for having Starbucks, but small white children were allowed to have Hot Cheetos. The Starbucks is located about twenty feet from the theater. Ken P., wearing a gray blazer, threatened to check our belongings if we didn't stay outside. I think that situation was outrageous and shouldn't be allowed.

Small venue making the performance that much more enjoyable. I love old theatre for charm and beauty and this one did not disappoint. The acoustics seemed to be fine in my humble opinion.

Balcony nailed it for watching the symphony, sound was top notch, great ushers. What a killer opportunity to watch musicians enjoy and share their passion. Mainly Mozart that everyone should experience, phenomenal. The Balboa is a great historic venue that suited the concert perfectly.

Beautiful restored theatre. Parking that I pre purchased was a breeze. About a 3 min walk. The acoustics were wonderful. The theatre provided booster seats for all the little ones. We were in Row L. What a fabulous view. Raffi doesn’t disappoint. What a joy to see all the smiling faces in the crowd.

This is the second year my wife and I have attended this event. Last year we saw Ethan Bortnick, and this year the Mainly Mozart Orchestra performing several pieces. Acoustics were great and seats are nice. The theater is beautifully restored and is a must see just for its interior. Highly recommend the theater and Mainly Mozart performances. Had a great time and will definitely be back!!

I hate to leave a review like this but it happened last evening. We had purchased 2 tickets for a Drag Queen Christmas through Groupon that said Rear Orchestra. When we arrived to the theater, our first visit to this theater, we were given rear Balcony tickets which are extremely high in the air since this theater is an older one that the balcony seats are more elevated than even an iMax theater. I have Vertigo and once I tried to get near the seats, I was dizzy and we had to go back downstairs. The theater said they knew that Rear Orchestra were advertised, but they had no other tickets and that they had seated all of those that purchased tickets through Groupon in the rear Balcony. They offered 2 free drinks for the inconvenience. This was unacceptable since they advertised one thing and gave another. I also am disabled and wear a brace on my right leg so climbing all of these stairs was extremely painful - which I also told the theater. The theater did not offer a refund and said I would like the show from next to the back row in the balcony.
I left the show very disappointed and of course, my spouse left also. This was a complete waste of money and an obvious case of "Bait and Switch" which is illegal.
I am very disappointed in the Balboa Theater for ripping off all of the Groupon customers - all of the people in the rear balcony were Groupon tickets. Many others also left and felt ripped off.
Balboa Theater - can you do anything about this extreme mistake and make it right?

Would a young child be able to view the stage well in an orchestra seat or should we purchase tickets further back?

Would like to purchase orchestra tickets, row J. Can you tell me if seats 101-104 (directly behind wheelchair accessible section) have restricted leg room? Virtual seating map seems to suggest this. Also, is the view open/unobstructed?
Thank you!
