Museum entry is free which was great. It was a small venue with classic art, nothing modern. No special exhibit while we were there, but overall a nice break in the AC from our sunny day in the park. Lots of old 15-17th century pieces...More

The San Diego Timken Museum of Art is a fine art museum, established in 1965 and located in Balboa Park. The museum displays European old master paintings, sculptures, and tapestries as well as holdings from American and Russian icons. Unfortunately for me the works which...More

This is one of Balboa Park’s few free museums. It’s a small place and the emphasis is on European art. They also had an exhibit of religious icons going back to the 1400s. Since we were here in early December, they were displaying a collection...More

Free. Wonderful little museum that included works by some of the great masters. Did I say it was free . . . And it is in the middle of Balboa Park which is certainly worth a visit.

Despite its modern square box look that clashes with the Spanish architecture of most of the rest of Balboa Park, this free museum (by donation only) is a true gem. We always love to spend time with the Russian icons in one of the galleries;...More

If you enjoy fine art, do not miss the Timken Museum. It is free! You can add an audio tour for a small fee, however, we didn’t take advantage of this due to time limitations. It is a small museum with works divided by Italian,...More

The Timken Museum of Art is a must see attraction in Balboa Park! It is small in size, but not in quality, exhibiting many virtually priceless classical masterpieces. It has always been free, but of superior quality and beautifully presented. Bring the children; expose them...More

Out of the 17 museums (15 according Balboa Park Conservancy own brochure) Timken museum is the only free admission one. But dont let the "Free" fool you thinking it's not worth the visit. You can easily spend more than an hour here even if you...More
