Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

I had a hard time enjoying the zoo as I stomached the entry price. A large portion of the zoo was under construction as well. It was not a value experience and was not head and shoulders above what other zoos offer.

It had been a while since I had been to a zoo so I was surprised at how expensive it was but the care that was evidenced made me feel that it was money well spent.

I know there is a following for SDZ that borders on religion, but please haters hear me out. I travel a lot with my family and have been to dozens of zoos of all different classes and scopes across the country. The SDZ is definitely...More

Early December proved a good time to visit, crowds were low, the crisp air likely contributed to the animals being more active. We began with the bus tour which provides a great introduction to about half the park (our guide sang parts of our tour,...More

Great layout to zoo. Very tastefully laid out. Make sure you allocate sufficient time. It really takes a day to get around it properly including a lunch stop. And wear comfortable shoes. There is a reasonable amount of walking up and downhill.

Some cages need to be up graded as they are far too small for the animals. Like the elephant enclosures.. they elephants were extremely bored & it was sad to see them swaying . the zoo seems to be extending their premises, so hopefully there...More

A good zoo, large and world-class even, that you can easily spend a day in punctuated by a reasonable lunch stop at Alberts Restaurant, their non-fast food sit-down in-Zoo eaterie. We pre-booked a table at Alberts on Opentable but it proved to be half empty...More

This zoo has everything you will want to see. This is an all day event, I suggest purchasing a tram ticket.

Glad we went in a Monday in December. No lines and no crowds. I can only imagine what a zoo it must be on the weekends and during tourist season. Ha! Without crowds, it is easily doable in a half day, including the bus tour...More

My family and I visited the zoo in September. It was a great experience even for my one year old. He absolutely loved everything about the zoo. Be prepared for walking though.
