Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

We had a group from 9 to 55 years old. Everyone had a great time. There were a few exhibits that were closed or under construction, but there was so much to see that it did not matter to us. We especially enjoyed riding in the upper deck of the bus around the zoo to get a different perspective. We... More

We thought it was quite expensive to get in but there is so much to see it is worth the money. It is big, it will take you hours to get around to see everything, but it is well laid out and they do have a hop on/off bus tour. Well worth a visit.

For what it offers, the San Diego zoo is ridiculously overpriced. The landscaping was fantastic, although given California's drought, it seems excessive. Information about the animals was sadly lacking. The layout seemed random and the map was not particularly helpful. The panda was cool and we appreciate the zoo's conservation efforts. If this were an attraction priced for everyone to... More

If you're visiting San Diego you must take time to see the zoo. I'm a huge animal lover so I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only negative is the map is not easy to read and we ended up in areas we didn't think we were going to. We wanted to see all of it any way so it didn't really... More

We were suprised that tickets were so expensive & sold to include the gondola & bus tour & the kangaroo on & off bus. These mandatory add ons increase the price for families on a budget. It seems that the new exhibit under construction has caused a lot of detours. Whenever, we visit the San Diego area we like to... More

San Diego Zoo is definitely the best one I have visited.it will take you around 4 hours to see everything by walking instead taking shuttle(I recommend walking).Zoo is very clean, animals are treated good,I even saw staff walking jaguar outside of cage.there is lot of nice trails, escalators and even sky ride from one part to another.you will not regret

Plan to spend at least four or more hours but make sure you have good walking shoes, the SD Zoo is so expansive and the animals and exhibits are wonderful for children of all ages. HINT - find all the pressed penny machines (LOTS) for great, inexpensive souvenirs, we have them from all over the US including Alaska and Hawai'i!

My husband, his coworker and myself visited the zoo last Friday, and we had a good time. There is lots to see. The pandas were great. The elephants were exciting. We rode the Skyfari and that was fun. We also took the bus tour to start our zoo adventure. It definitely allowed us to see different parts of the zoo... More

Overall impression: "Voted #1 zoo in the world" according to tripadvisor is highly exaggerated. Yes, it is a great zoo but is has also downsides: 1. Often you don't get to see the animals because they are hiding somewhere far away or because their habitat is designed in a way which makes it difficult to see anything (example: the bonobos)....
