Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

I was very disappointed today in the San Diego Zoo. I love animals and zoos and expected this to be a cut above. It was not. First of all, it is exceedingly hard to navigate. Hills, hills and more hills. I have been to the Columbus OH, Indianapolis IN and Cincinnati OH zoos and the animals were all the same... More

The cleanliness. The layout. The staff. The fact you can tell they actually spend money on the facilities not only for the tourists but more so the animals makes this a must place to visit. Not sure you'll find a better zoo on this planet.

We spent the afternoon at the zoo on a trip to So Cal and wish we hadn't bothered. We enjoyed the Phoenix Zoo and Calgary Zoo FAR more than this zoo. Lots of small enclosures, poor visibility, long long hilly walk with lots of closed areas/paths. Oh and it was SO Packed with people that it was borderline claustrophobic and... More

Not hugely disappointed but not blown away!! Just seriously ok. Cost us $100 for two adults and $45 for lunch!! felt is was overpriced! They need some sort of transportation to get from the back of the zoo to the front, instead of walking thru exhibits you've already walked thru!! the lineup for the sky train was 1 hour....well our... We were very glad that we spent a morning at the zoo. This is obviously a very popular destination and it was extremely crowded. We got there a few minutes before it opened and went straight to the panda exhibit. They were awake and eating, and it wasn't too busy there yet. We went next to see the koalas, and... More

A truly spectacular zoo. The many paths and exhibit entryways take you out Southern California and into exotic parts of the world.

This is one of the best zoos we have ever visited. It is high on my list of places to see in Southern California. The staff was helpful, the exhibits were very well done, and they layout made it feel like the park was not as crowded as it likely was. Overall, our visit was an outstanding experience!

The San Diego Zoo is a great place to visit on a free day. It's best to set aside a full day, though, because it is a rather large zoo with many attractions. Because of this, you might want to bring a stroller or Baby Bjorn for small children who might get tired walking across the whole zoo. There are... More

A perfect way to see the zoo in a short amount of time. We booked the 2 hour "Surprise tour". This took us around most of the zoo in a cart to see the main exhibits. It also took us behind the scenes for two animal encounters and to see the Giant Pandas. Our guide was very informative and the... More

When visiting a friend on vacation from Phila. She recommended the San Diego zoo. I didn't want to waste a day. But decided to go for my wife and it was worth the trip. We were able to see one of the Pandas after it had taken a nap. So it was very playful and eating. Very cool.
