This area is near Balboa park and zoo, it's not wide range of souvenirs for tourists, just place for relaxing after long walk from the Zoo or Balboa park; however, its operating hours are quite short. If you have a short time, skip this place.
This little village in balboa park was a quirky little place where local artists were selling there art. The atmosphere was good with some live music, coffee and loads of art of various types like photopgraphy, glass blowing , painting , jewellery , sculpture at...More
An interesting art centre with some artists in attendance. Some were friendly, talkative and helpful. Others ignore you. Lots of things to choose from if you are looking for a gift for someone. The plaza is nice to visit and just sit with a cold...More
Pros: It's quaint (although pretty run down) and free.
Cons: This is a collection of some 40+ artist studios or arts/crafts shops. I toured the Village during one of the Open Studio events where essentially all of the artists were present. I encountered one lady...More

I am sorry that you didn't have the experience you expected at Spanish Village Art Center. As one of the artists I wish you would have taken the time to explore what we are all about. We are an "Artist Community" not a "Fine Art...More

A compelling and engaging addition to Balboa Park in San Diego.
There is quite a diversity of artists represented with crafts of all stripes. You're bound to find something special that will serve as remembrance of this special place
The Spanish Village Art Center is a joy to behold. The quality and variety of the art is excellent. There's much handmade beauty to enjoy and to buy. It's quiet, pretty and the shops are friendly -- like an art fair every day!

There are a parking lot right beside Spanish Village which has a couple of handicap spaces. Lots of competition for any/all parking ... suggest you go early (Village opens officially at 10am, but a few places open a bit earlier). You can sit on the benches while you are waiting. Behind the Natural History Museum is a parking lot too... it's a little farther away, but not a great deal. Could park in the handicap spaces in the Zoo parking lot ... it isn't far from there over to the Village ... but I don't know how limited the person with the walker is. If you just barely can walk, go for the parking lot right behind the Village... if you can walk a bit without much difficulty, either of the other two should work as well.
