    IMPRESSIVE
This is an enjoyable attraction to visit. First, entry is through the Visitor Center which is located under the plaza of the Capitol Building. The Visitor Center is the starting point of the tours. The most elaborate and challenging tour is the Dome Tour. This includes climbing stairs to the top of the dome. These stairs are narrow and steep; it is a challenge to complete this tour. The second tour excludes the dome tour and walks through the first five floors of the Capitol Building. The last tour is the self-guided tour. We completed the self-guided tour. Surprisingly, the self-guided tour allowed us to roam, at our leisure throughout the building. We sat in the Senate and House Chambers and observed the murals and exhibits on the first five floors. Being that the legislature was not in session, we were probably allowed this access to the building. The ground floor was impressive. The large stones of the foundation, of the Capitol, are clearly visible. The architecture of the building is impressive. We enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to others.

We enjoy visiting State Capitols. We especially like good guided tours. The tours that morning were overfill so we self toured. We were able to see the regular areas and it’s an attractive building. No complaints and while we wished we could have had a guided tour we don’t whine and moan over things like that.

    Good stop
Beautiful architecture inside and out. We were there on a cloudy, rainy day, so we spent our time inside. There was construction going on outside, so it may be wise to double check where to park and enter before you go. We did not go on a tour, but if you want to go up in the dome you must. I wish we would’ve gotten there in time for the tour. They were in session, and it was cool getting to see that. The library with the glass block floor is a must see, accessible by a gorgeous iron spiral staircase. I desperately wanted to ride the open cage elevator, but it wasn’t moving and I’m not sure it ever is. It’s a nice quick stop I do recommend.

    Highlight of our Topeka visit.
We stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon. You go in on the front lower area. The people working the door were very nice. You can walk around at your own leisure. The basement is like a beautiful museum. The whole building was quite beautiful. I would highly recommend this place. Free of charge.

    Amazingly Restored State Capitol
The state of Kansas restored it's state capitol over a 15 year period from 1999-2014. Beautiful marble, copper, wood and metalwork throughout. If you can do it physically, walk the 296 stairs to the top. You must be on an official tour to do this but it is free. Not a place for those with a fear of heights, because much of the stairways are open and very narrow. The view from the top is spectacular.

    Beautifully Restored Kansas Capitol Building
We enjoyed a great tour of the Kansas State Capitol Building that has been magnificently restored in recent years. Our guide was perfect in both timing and information as she led us through the building explaining the history of the building and state, the murals and other art works, and architectural features. We stayed a little more than two hours spending a little time on our own before the tour and then retracing our steps through parts of the building for more photos after the one-hour tour. This stop was one of the highlights of our recent trip to eastern Kansas. We appreciated the good information on the capitol website about the building, hours, driving directions, and parking.

    Impressive state capital
This is a beautifully restored state capital that is worth taking a tour of. You can go with a tour guide or take a self-guided tour. If you can climb 296 steps and are not afraid of heights, the dome tour is spectacular. You get to see the construction of the inner dome and go outside near the top of the outer dome. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and full of all sorts of stories about the capital. Two people in our tour stopped partway and waited for the rest of us. Be aware the dome can get quite warm in the summer.

    Great State Capitol visit
This is my 47th State Capitol, visit (though I haven’t managed to get inside all as they often are closed at weekends). This was one of the best. Friendly staff, great looking building, everything so accessible (the State is not just going thru the motions in terms of allowing public access - they let you see nearly everything). The museum at lower ground level is great too.

The building tour is well worth it! Guides were great, informative, and fun. The recent restoration really was impressive. They restored and updated.

I loved all the history this capital has to offer. Took the tour and the highlight was going up to the dome. Unlike any other, this stairway to the top is not for anyone that is scareed of heights like me. My husband went up to the top but I was terrified to go up any higher than the base.

It is a beautiful building. I try and stop at all the state capitals that I pass, and this one was worth it. The tour is available, but the construction surrounding the building made it difficult to locate. Definately worth seeing.

At the age of 53, there are few states I have not been to, but Kansas is one of them.
I visited to see among other things its Capitol. I think Capitols are good because they show you the way the state wishes to be seen.

The Kansas Capitol is a beautiful white structure capped by a bronze dome that is taller, yet skinner than that of the US Capitol and located in the middle of a grass square with several beautiful trees, many of whom were in bloom in April. The dome is topped by a Plains Native American with his bow pulled to the north, specifically aimed at the North Star in reference to the state's motto.

The interior has just undergone a renovation with a new Visitor's Center. They offer tours; however, it is also very open and accessible to self guiding. I simply walked the building to see the things I wanted to see. I will say I did not have time to the Dome tour, but it appears to be a great opportunity to go where few states will allow you. The usual places you want to see like rotunda, House and Senate Chambers are very nice. In addition Kansas has a nice library to see as well as the Supreme Court which still meets in the building. In addition, the building has great art that tells the story of Kansas history. Perhaps the most acclaimed and visited is the second floor mural to reflect the importance of the Brown vs. Topeka BOE.

Again, I was in and out for timing but wish I had seen the dome. Also this is a very open and accessible building, the most I have visited in the last 20 years. Finally it is very easy to reach just blocks off an exit to I-70 and has visitor parking underground on the same road as the exit.
